Happy autumnal (or vernal) equinox, my dears ✨ The season of change is upon us. (Throw back photo from last fall, our trees haven't gotten around to shedding yet.)

The most important onboarding task of any new tech job is now complete: my laptop case has been stickered 😁 I like to give my stickers some breathing room, but there's definitely space for a few more — like one from @igalia.com. Gotta rep the co-op!
A photo of Robin's work laptop, opened so the stickered lid is facing the camera, sitting on top of the glass desk protector on her bamboo desk. Her laptop case has a dozen stickers on it: in the middle, an illustrated tribute to astronaut Mae Jemison, below which is an "Omne Verbum" sticker from Wordnik and a "Free People Read Freely" sticker from the Sonoma County Library. At the top, centered, is a classic "#OpenEverything" sticker from when Robin helped run OSCON. On the left, there are stickers from North Bay Python, Copyleft Conf, and PyDX. On the right are stickers from organizations Robin has or is a part of including Google Open Source, Open Source Initiative, Matrix.org Foundation, Petaluma Pride, and Open Chapters.

Happy Caturday, my dears 🥰 Today Pico-cat got lots of outdoor time, but he's no longer content to just explore or enjoy catnip. No, this time he needed to play and remind the world he's a ferocious beastie. Caterpillar unrelated, Pico and I just played with long grass.

Turns out, I slay in a skirt and look pretty fabulous in a dress ✨ No full length photos to share tho, still too new of an exploration 😘
A selfie of Robin in her backyard under the trees on a sunny spring day. Her hair is down and low key wavy, with some curls where it reaches her shoulders. She's wearing a black long sleeve t-shirt with a low neckline under a shirt dress with the top parted like a vest. The pattern on the dress is a geometric starburst pattern in blue, white, black, and teal. Robin's wearing large silver starburst earrings, black wooden rectangular glasses, and a silver necklace with a tiny silver bird inset with blue opal. All in all, a pretty cute ensemble.

I remember reading the 2nd year of transition is spicy. It's true! Progress no longer rapid. Dysphoria in focus but far from resolved. Uncanny valley of appearance means constant misgendering. Now equipped to begin confronting the grief. Much to be happy about! More at home than ever. But woof.
A selfie of Robin from her room — the background, full of oak cabinetry and a bay window with a giant star hanging in it, is slightly blurred. Robin is center frame and looking at the camera with a slight smile, her dirty blonde hair pulled up into a ponytail with a fringe hanging down the left side of her face. She's wearing a brown short sleeve button up with the top buttons undone, revealing a sterling silver necklace with a bird pendant insert with a blue opal, along with her black rectangular wooden frame glasses, and earrings each with a single dangling forest green blossom crafted out of a soft material.

My training flight 7 years ago today! I miss flying dearly. Last flight was March 2020. FAA hates people with ADHD, even if its well managed. I can't get medical clearance to do solo flight and finish my license. Got a bum heart, tho? No problem! Maybe they'll enter the 21st century someday 🤷🏻‍♀️

First post-Swalwell gubernatorial poll has dropped. One primary beneficiary stands out: Becerra. He and Porter remain my top choices. But regardless of how YOU vote, just make sure you and everyone you know votes. Turnout matters more than persuading each other to coalesce around a given candidate.
A screenshot of California 2026 gubernatorial poll results from Emerson College Polling showing changes from September to April in poll results for Hilton R, Bianco R, Steyer D, Porter D, Becerra D, and Mahan D.

Every Democratic candidate saw a surge as Swalwell supporters defected, but while most saw gains of 2-3% points, Becerra gained 7%.

Fascinating 👀 A working group of Indivisible chapters in California surveyed 11,810 people using STAR voting, to ascertain who they should ask to drop out of the gubernatorial race. The results are below. Personally, I really hope people start coalescing around Xavier Becerra. He can do this.

Betty Yee — 16,708 points
Antonio Villaraigosa — 11,034 points
Tony Thurmond — 10,317 points

This isn't just a surge of people. This is an organized movement. If you're not plugged in to civic orgs yet, now's the time. We accomplish nothing as individuals, and everything as a team. #NoKings www.meditationsinanemergency.com/eight-millio... by @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social
A screenshot of an excerpt of Rebecca's post. It reads:

He cites among their results, "At the People’s March in January 2025, 10% of participants said they heard about the event through an organization. Yesterday, that number was 34%. Word-of-mouth from family and friends, historically the most common channel for protests, dropped from 48% to 38%.

Robin has highlighted this passage from Rebecca:
People are no longer being summoned by just outrage. They are being mobilized by infrastructure, which now likely includes their friends and family. This is the difference between a movement that surges and a movement that can win.

Robin's highlight ends there, but the excerpt continues:

47% of DC marchers reported being members of a group, including groups that organized the event. 27% were members of FreeDC, the local organizer. 10% were Indivisible.... What you are watching is the conversion of protest attendance into activism. The people who showed up on Saturday were not taking a day off from normal life to register their feelings. They were the most civically active slice of the electorate, and they are getting more active.

I really think there's something to that. I stumbled into this via a friend back in 2024 and I can't stop coming back to it.
A chart showing a circular pattern that many countries follow. A number of flags are placed along the various stages. The stages are: uninspiring centrist refuses to tackle underlying social problems that led to the rise of the far-right. Then, stagnating living standard creates fertile ground for fascism, far-right win elections. Then, far-right drives economy off a cliff, lowers standards of public life and generally makes everything objectively worse. Then, uninspiring centrist defeats far-right with a promise of change.

A photo of Robin on a bright spring morning, she's wearing a gray turtleneck under a raptor brown vest, eyeglasses with a thick blue metal frame, a silver necklace with a light green tree of life pendant, a black cross-body sling. The backdrop is breathtakingly beautiful – the sky is bright blue, and the lush green rolling hills of the Petaluma countryside fill the lower half of the camera frame.
