It's upsetting that two films with such important things to say are doing so poorly.

A showrunner once told me, “Hollywood attracts all the people who are the most desperate to be affirmed by others, but entertainment is the industry least likely to affirm you.” So you gotta affirm yourself and find your own joy, because if you can do that, rejections start to matter a lot less.

Nonsense. Finish it. If it's too similar, tweak it, but don't shelve it unfinished.

I don't understand the logic of presenting a standard def alternate cut if you have higher res materials. Why not cut the HD/4K footage to match the alternate cut and switch to SD for the footage you don't have? Criterion/Shout/Arrow have done it many times. Hell, I've done it. It's not hard.

the reason “AI will create so much abundance we will have a utopian society” rhetoric falls so flat is that the people building it will never, ever share their bounty unless it is taken from them and we all know it

I'd bet a shiny new dime this script originated as a different movie and someone decided to add Matchbox to it. Sure feels like that from the trailer.

Anything that is fully generative AI trying to pass itself off as animation is not animation, nor even a film. I will never take it seriously since all it does is steal and I'd rather see real art come from real people than thieving machines.

It remains baffling to me how people can watch shots like these in Texas Chainsaw and subsequently Hooper's composition and movement in The Funhouse then legit say "No way he directed Poltergeist, it looks nothing like his work."

I took one of those motion activated ghosts, cut the wire to the speaker so it only shook, and put it in a box with a plushie skunk that had its tail hanging out the top, wrapped it and took it to my sister's wedding. The box shook like the skunk was alive whenever someone approached the gift table.

Yeah honestly I have never liked Iñárritu movies either and I really loved DIGGER. Though probably in spite of Cruise.

This scene featuring David Ellison acting in FLYBOYS (2006) is exactly how I predict the next few years in the Skydance C-Suite will go.

There are so many people, so many, that love film and want to dedicate their whole lives to making films, in front of the camera, behind it, in editing suites and casting rooms and makeup trailers. And that these locusts can come in and just devour the industry, take it from us all, is devastating.

What is the movie that came out before you were born that you’ve watched the most times?

Dorothy Provine and Spencer Tracy stand in a green park looking off screen to the right. Text says "It was a nice dream. Lasted almost five minutes." From IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD (1963)

I really like The Underneath. It's where Soderbergh started experimenting with color in the ways he eventually used for Traffic and it has a pretty spectacular all-split-diopter dinner scene.
