i sometimes see indie devs lament that players aren't interested in their game and then speculate as to why that is, when i'd guess that 99% of the time it's just that people haven't heard of it and that the vast majority of steam users don't seek out or play indie games

Rigid gameplay loops in video games are a huge turn off for me. I often see people talk about a good gameplay loop getting them into a flow state, but the opposite is true for me. It becomes old fast, and I just feel trapped.

I'm calling the procedural RPG backend "Chronicler". I'm designing a system based on the concept of "quests as mysteries", where the player must solve a quest by completing several smaller objectives. Each of those small objectives can have complications that lead to other quests.

At first I thought #godot metadata was not that useful, since it's a bunch of magic numbers and strings. BUT you can use enums instead and assign them in your #gdscript! This is so helpful for determining types of colliders on collisions and raycasts.
