In meme form:
the it might work for us meme.

A guy is explaining to a blond woman: Managers everywhere merge academic schools under the pretence it's an answer to the problems in the sector.

woman: "well, did it work for those people?"
guy: "no, it never does, I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but..."
guy: "but it might work for us."

Artwashing AI includes such perverse efforts as this: using a tool whose energy needs are so extractive that it contributes to climate change, which threatens the survival of endangered species...in order to "really make ya think" about endangered species.

In an East Village gallery, K Allado-McDowell has created an audiovisual tribute to species we have lost as a rehearsal for a proposed physical monument. Link to the paywall bypassed version here: https://archive.ph/h17bJ#selection-509.0-513.153

Man, this is a pretty fucking gross move from Amazon, huh? Good on @bookshop.org for not mincing words, though:
Every April, we celebrate Independent Bookstore Day to remind us how vital indie bookstores are to our communities and society. It’s a day of joy and solidarity, and significant financial impact for these bookstores.

This year, Amazon is undercutting that with a “Book Sale” on the same day—a calculated move by a company that has already put half the bookstores in the country out of business, controls over 60% of the market and sells far more books than all indie bookstores combined. The people at Amazon responsible for the timing of their "Book Sale" should be ashamed, but they are shameless.
