I'm so excited about this project! "Will-o'-the-Wisp" is a graphic novel I'm writing and drawing. You can read the first half here: brianrwilliams.com/will-o-the-w... Consider joining my Patreon to support the project and get access to new chapters as I finish them! www.patreon.com/c/greygraphite

Title page for my graphic-novel-in-progress. The title text, "Will-o'-the-Wisp," glows green above the illustration. Leona (the mountain lion), Argyle (the extraterrestrial), Orick (the Sasquatch) and Ursula (the human person) leading the group with a flashlight, walk down a set of stairs in a cave lit by purple light.

"Will-o'-the-Wisp" is about a spooky light Ursula sees in the woods outside her trailer one night. She and Orick, Argyle, and Leona set out to discover the truth about the ghost light. But they're not alone; malevolent Sasquatches called wood devils are also hunting the Will-o'-the-Wisp. Ursula and her friends must catch up to the light before the wood devils do.

The first half of the novel is free to read here: https://brianrwilliams.com/will-o-the-wisp.html

The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out. This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.

Swen Vincke @LarAtLarian

Holy fuck guys we’re not "pushing hard" for or replacing concept artists with AI.

We have a team of 72 artists of which 23 are concept artists and we are hiring more. The art they create is original and I’m very proud of what they do.

I was asked explicitly about concept art and our use of Gen AI. I answered that we use it to explore things. I didn’t say we use it to develop concept art. The artists do that. And they are indeed world class artists.

We use AI tools to explore references, just like we use google and art books. At the very early ideation stages we use it as a rough outline for composition which we replace with original concept art. There is no comparison.

I talked about how we use ML here if you would like to know more:
https://gamespot.com/articles/baldurs-gate-3-dev-embraces-machine-learning-for-tasks-that-nobody-wants-to-do/1100-6531123/

We've hired creatives for their talent, not for their ability to do what a machine suggests, but they can experiment with these tools to make their lives easier.

Iggy ⭐️💫 I’m not much of a sculptor but this was super fun to make!! 🐾 #jjbaiggy #jjba #jojosbizarreadventure

A photo on a purple textured background of a clay sculpture of Iggy from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Around him his name is written, along with some doodles of stars. Iggy is a black and white boston terrier with big blue eyes and yellow inside of his ears. He is holding Jotaro’s hat in his mouth, a black school uniform cap with a yellow trim, button, and an emblem with a hand on it.

More angles of the Iggy statue including a close up of his face

Me holding up the Iggy sculpture to my own dog, Toby. Toby is a rusty brown, fluffy poodle mix, and is giving the statue a sniff. The statue is around 2-3inches tall.

A grey skinned vampiric drow is wearing a long, black cloak adorned with an intricate pattern of spider webs. From each of her lacy gloved hands sprouts a magical purplish-pink flame and a silver rapier respectively. She has piercing, glowing pink eyes and has small fangs protruding from her lips. Around her sword swirls a dark and shadowy energy.
