I'm a strong advocate that everyone blooms in their own time, yet most people feel pressured to fall into the mold given to us by society. Screw it, go for what interests you, find good mentors, and have a good time. People often take everything too seriously to enjoy life.

I've gone back and forth been the two nursing specialties since, but missed research, so started a PhD program at 38. I'm able to blend all my backgrounds, which had until now felt disparate - my work is in brain injury in survivors of intimate partner violence. Hoping to defend in the Fall!

During that time, I volunteered as a victim advocate, and it inspired me to return to school at 31 to become a nurse, specifically forensic nursing. However, you need experience for that, and since I worked in neurocognitive research, it felt like a natural fit to do neuro nursing.

I did a bachelor's and master's degree by 23, and then... didn't know what to do with my life? I took some classes in the next couple years, thinking I'd do med school, and then started working as a research assistant, which ended up lasting 5 years at a hospital & then another 3 at a university.

They are already extremely cozy but a little too big... I officially felted them and nothing happened, so they've been through the wash in a mesh bag with other laundry and still barely felted! But I'm gonna wear them anyway because maybe I have a death wish going down stairs 😅

I recently tried a sourdough discard Dutch baby recipe, which came out like a thin crumpet - it never rose and it was covered in all the little holey pockmarks. It was definitely a teenager.

Her daughter gifted her stash to one of the ladies, so she hosted a party. We shared our stories & memories of her, divvied up the stash, and anything else will be donated to the craft thrift store. I had also fallen out of touch with these ladies, so glad to reconnect now but sad it was in this way

She was my first knitting friend when I moved here and didn't know anyone. We had fallen out of touch, but after getting together with ladies from the old yarn shop, it sounds like everyone hadn't heard from her in awhile. It sounds like she had been ill but hadn't told anyone. 😢

Life is too short to not tell your friends how you feel about them. Since February, I've been getting in touch with old friends who I haven't seen or heard from in years. It's been wonderful to reconnect, and I hope it inspires others to reach out to people who mean something to them.

Here's my #lightitupMAL project! It's going to be a Beam Me Up Scotty cowl, with yarn from a friend who recently passed. This year has been challenging - this is the second friend to have passed in a couple months. This MAL is a great way to honor her & add to my efforts spurred by the other ⬇️

I am envisioning 3 shelves on each side - bottom will be children's and YA, middle will be smaller with freebie things like bookmarks, conference swag, etc., and the top will be fiction and nonfiction. And the top of the cabinet: perfect for fashioning an open book! 🥳

Alright, #showmeyourknits - it's obligatory for colorwork weeks to post my fave sweater I've ever made. Pattern is The Bookshelf Sweater by Tomomi Yoshimoto, made in Conifer Collective yarn Bejeweled and Anti-Hero. Pattern mods by me - happy to share! My ode to 90s hip hop and all the books.
