Watching The Orville lately, and later than everyone else. Enjoying it - I thought it was more of a Star Trek spoof and while there's elements of that, it's often just a decent Star Trek space-adventure with more laughs. Best of The Orville easily beats a weak Star Trek:SNW episode.

Going to run a workshop on how to put relevant facts in headlines. Going to call it “The Lost Art of What’s Actually Happened” and charge £600 a day. Going to go bankrupt doing this, then it will be reported as “Local suffers problem” as nobody came to my workshop.

New favourite Wikipedia sentence. That ice skater is having a very weird day. Intense screaming. “Now hold your arms out” Screaming intensifies. “You’re losing your north-south orientation!”
Inner regions are dragged more than outer regions. This produces locally rotating frames. *For example, imagine that a north-south-oriented ice skater, in orbit over the equator of a rotating black hole and rotationally at rest with respect to the stars, extends her arms.* The arm extended toward the black hole will be
"torqued" spinward due to gravitomagnetic induction

I am seriously starting to think I need to phone hotels up and ask "If I am on the toilet and my partner is in bed, will she be able to see me?" Because she doesn't like it and frankly the novelty's worn off somewhat for me as well.

My theory is all a lot of voters want is good, competent, realistic decision making and implementation so they don’t have to spend all their time worrying that the sky is falling in.

This is a thousand time true. Watched the first two episodes of S4 last night - was expecting it to be a weekly watch, but they've put all six on iPlayer. Those two episodes were... relentless. They've earned every minute of it though. This is a very real "Best TV Ever" contender for me.

Big fan of free updates/enhancements to games I already own. Got a decent amount of play from the Conan:Exiles one and now they've done the same for Witcher 3.

Born '76. For most of my life, tech was fun. My dad renting a VHS player (yes, the player, plus tapes). ZX Spectrum. First email at university. A phone which was mobile. Dial-up internet. I used to photoblog from a SE W810i. All "cool, future is here" memories. This shite can fuck off though.

I'll go one better and name a film with TWO: Blow the Man Down, Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy. Fantastic tight 90 min black comedy crime thing, very nearly with an all-female cast. And the men that are in it are frankly not up to much. Currently on Prime if you have Prime.

Nothing gets me excited about a movie more than a mismatch between Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB scores. Critics love it but general public hates it? Critics hate it but general public love it? Either way, something interesting or fun or genius is going on. Latest example (6.4 vs 99%!)

New word of the day: columbarium, "a structure for the reverential and usually public storage of funerary urns holding cremated remains of the dead. The term comes from the Latin columba (dove) and originally solely referred to compartmentalized housing for doves and pigeons, also called dovecotes."
