Was this good? Did anyone else see it? I’m worried I might have dreamt it.

Cherry-picked these: "Values premium alcoholic beverages, appreciates premium spirits and liqueurs, hikes regularly in various weather conditions, reads extensively across multiple fiction genres, systematically collecting Patrick O'Brian naval series, engages in athletic activities." Swipe right?

The economics of premium cat food are mad. Untamed cat food, the wet tins, cheapest you can get them at Pets at Home is £16.66 a kilogram. That is literally, no messing, more expensive than John West tuna at Waitrose. Or some of their cooked chicken.

I almost got myself in trouble once telling a few South Africans the Watford Gap was an actual hole in the ground. They didn't think I was as funny as I thought I was.

In fact, they bought it in 2018 and it seems to have had a fair bit of use but still be worth fighting over. I'm halfway inclined to demand a share in it, sounds like a solid bit of kit!

That's what I was thinking, but they (well, one of them, I don't know or care who) paid to get it repaired, which makes me think it has to be a halfway decent tent.

Constantly dumbfounded by how the Fuel Finder thing, which is (am I wrong here?) entirely made possible by new government rules, is presented as just having popped into existence. Labour should be shouting from the rooftops about this, not leaving it to the papers to mention it in paragraph eight.

A death, a plagiarism scandal and a quest for revenge: the bizarre tale of Otto Z
The long read: After his mother died, Otto became convinced he’d been wronged by the forensic investigators – and that one of them was a fraud. The truth was even stranger

I always mention this as the airport doesn’t tout it, so apologies if you already know, but there’s a free pick-up / drop-off in long-stay parking, 5-10 mins away. Not ideal or suitable for all, but it’s there.

So Carrie's potentially in that territory. But that's maybe unfair or coincidence, and I will always watch the first two episodes of anything he makes.

My slight apprehension is that the Flanagan work I haven't got on with has been The Midnight Club (teens) and The Fall of the House of Usher (didn't get very far, but young adults with sub-teen impulse control).

Went from “Why remake Carrie” to “Holy shit, Carrie but by Mike Flanagan? Gimmie” very quickly reading this. Don’t like all of Flanagan’s stuff, but I absolutely love enough of it to give him a chance with anything.

Carrie review – the teenage hell-raiser’s glorious return couldn’t come at a better time
This witty, smart remake takes bullying and telekinetic violence to new extremes. Even the shower scene is more excruciating than the original

Biggest nuisance is that they wander into the kitchen - the rosemary's right at the back door. But they're pretty little things so it's hard to get angry at them. I do wonder HOW they got here, though. Just popped up on this one particular plant.

Your October Perks have arrived. They're the same as every month, and you get the same perks from every other company you know. Yes, they do all require signing up for a subscription. No, you don't NEED any of them. Oh, and there's 10% off something that's clearly 30% overpriced!

We've had them for years - five minimum - on a supermarket herb-pot rosemary thriving in an Edinburgh back garden. I've seen them on other plants, but not to the same extent. They don't cause any noticeable damage, but we don't really eat from the plant so we're not inspecting closely.

I would have been P5 when it was banned I think. I’m. It sure my school actually used it - it was a threat kept in the headmaster’s office, but I don’t recall any actual use. I could give you a list of classmates who deserved it though.

That’s enough time for any of the main tourist attractions. Or a film. It’s more of a “what do you like?” question. Seen the new(-ish) wing at the National Gallery?

Blue Lights
For police officers in Belfast, the pressure is immense. Facing criminal gangs and divided communities, they don't know who to trust. Gritty, BAFTA-winning drama.

That's Blue Lights finished forever. I'll need to wait for the emotional dust to settle, but it's in my Top 10 shws of all time, and I doubt it's near the lower end. Started flawless and while I had the tiniest of storytelling quibbles over the later seasons, it's still an absolute gem...

Yes, it’s less of a contributor to GDP. But when this comes up there’s sometimes an air of “so why worry so much about fishing?” which I’m quite dubious about.

Rhinestone Browboy @rhinestonebrowboy.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I’m always curious as to whether or not this is a full picture. I suspect fishing employs more people, esp in eg processing, and is maybe more important in areas of otherwise low employment. These are useful functions GDP doesn’t capture.
