Resident Evil. A solid popcorn horror. Plenty of gore, some decent jump scares, though dampened by the overstretched anticipation of them. It doesn't cop out on the ending and it has a number of well shot sequences. The influence of Shaun Of The Dead can be felt, which is a good full circle moment.

The scene where older Brightbill is introduced in The Wild Robot was reconfigured during production so this little snippet of voice acting from Kit doesn't appear in the final film but is preserved here in this WIP clip...

Front row last night for the last performance of The Comedy About Spies at the Adelphi Theatre. My face was hurting with laughter. A special extra long self fight from Chris Leask getting a whopping applause.

Came upstairs and there was a chirping sound at the bathroom window. Apparently a grasshopper - inside - but for the life of me couldn't see it. Just heard the sound. Opened the window and it chirped madly. Closed the window again, it seemed then to be outside. Still chirping. Went back downstairs.

Weird assembly: five adults of varying ages gathered on stage and as a cold open did a skit about being in a bus queue and passing some chewing gum down the line. Skit ended, a beat, then they revealed themselves to be a Christian group. The following hour was some kind of odd recruitment drive.

So everyone in today's BFI's sale queue was basically *only* there for Ghosts. I think there's an argument to be had that BFI Southbank NFT1 is just too small a venue for Ghosts preview screenings and has been known since series 2.

Fourth film of the week... Pressure. Very decent, actually. The score can be overwhelming in places, especially early on but the tension throughout is at a good level, neither underplayed or melodramatic. All performed very well with precise tight dialogue while the D-Day scenes are starkly brutal.

Absolutely loved The Incomer. Gorgeous and hilarious. Wonderfully played comedy with some surprisingly touching moments and lovely splashes of animation. The childlike wonderment of the main protagonists is both charming and startingly violent. The soundtrack is also beautifully woven throughout.

Perfect excuse to post my favourite sketch from Horrible Histories, Abigail's Saxon Party. It's a wonderful pastiche. Also, while Simon Farnaby, Sarah Hadland and Martha Howe-Douglas play the sketch, Laurence Rickard is straight down the line doing the original play... youtu.be/JZb7QHydDV8?...

The Death Of Robin Hood. Beautifully filmed and beautifully soundtracked, but not really sure what else it is. Clearly makes some semi-veiled nods about generational trauma and the futility of revenge with the odd beard stroking philosophical point thrown in. Otherwise, mostly just a mood.

I cannot tell you what absolute fiction this is. AI is heading for a crash and this cackhanded Terminator narrative is being engineered to save them. The fact that the unsubstantiated testimony of a former employee has been the top story on BBC News all day is absurd and irresponsible.

Picking up my copy of @2000ad.bsky.social Prog 2499 earlier today with excitement to read the Brink book 7 finale was tempered everso slightly by the woman at check out exclaiming, "Four pound for that?!" My response was to simply say, "It's art!" Besides, £3.99 is a drokkin' bargain!!

Generational shifts. Happens periodically as generational groups move through into timelines that forgets they've existed before. It's why wars continue, it's why kids think they're the first to do something, it's why every century gets a new Caligula. Human tribalism meeting the Peter Principle.

Just managed to catch Sunny Dancer at the cinema on its limited run. A film full of joy while also throwing some punches to the heart, one landing particularly hard. It's difficult to make a film about cancer that totally avoids being mawkish but George Jaques has balanced the emotions very well.

Went to a pre-shift screening of Spiderman: Brand New Day. It's good but I *still* don't care about the MCU. Product placement for Bero gave me a wry smile. The Jean Grey stuff doing much of the heavy lifting, with a little Doomsday McGuffining, and probably mostly feeding the next X-Men film.

A probable consequence in the hard push for AI is a cultural split where there's a strong creative industry that doesn't use any AI, leaving pockets of other creative outlets that do. Over time the one that doesn't use AI develops and evolves while the other outlets using AI slowly die one by one.
