I rewrite the thing and tell him “ok the problem is that this sentence is passive and there’s a nonessential clause that’s not fully punctuated, in case anyone gives you guff.” Then I thank him for pinging me and pressing for the fix. Graphic is now back for round two of proofreading. #AmEditing

This is a tad unusual but we’ve worked together for a long time, so I know he’s serious. I look at the graphic again and damn, he’s right. It takes a minute to one, figure out the fix and two, to familiarize myself enough with the story so it’s accurate. #AmEditing

Today in learning moments: I glance briefly at a graphic and offer two minor suggestions for edits. I am generally reluctant to give heavy edits on a story that isn’t mine and I’m not super familiar with. Graphics person pings me and says the chatter sounds weird. “Are you sure?!” #AmEditing
