Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Also Canadian! Our SUV was nearly dead and not worth fixing, so we just traded it in for an EV. And we’re farmers - so we live in the middle of nowhere, have to deal with crappy road conditions a lot, and long, cold winters. Within a few months the amount we save on gas will help it pay for itself. 010

If they were rude and demanding, I would do the bare minimum (but still politely - I am Canadian, after all). 000

Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 24/09/2026It’s not highly rare, literally a majority of farms are doing it. Your problem is with the demand, creating a type of supply you don’t like. But it’s not black and white/all or nothing. You can advocate for good practices, even if they don’t fit your perfect vision. 000

Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I will continue to mention that most land on earth is nonarable and can’t grow crops for human consumption, so it’s fantastic for grazing animals. 101
Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Beef sales are irrelevant. I don’t have any cattle. Your main point was that you don’t like animal agriculture, I simply offered counter points to the reasons you don’t like it. It’s okay if you don’t want to eat meat, just don’t pretend the WORST ways to farm are the ONLY ways ppl are farming. 100
Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 08/09/2026There IS a demand for it, though. If there wasn’t, I wouldn’t be making any money on my farm LOL. More and more people are looking to support local. Farmers markets, small grocery stores, local butcher shops, auctions, are all on the rise. Ppl are supporting sustainable farming because they want to. 100

Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 08/09/2026My stats show that it’s REALLY easy to source meat from small, local farms. A local diet is the most ethical diet, for a many reasons. And pasture grazing can use nonarable land and often does; rocky terrain, solar farms, flood plains, etc. And rotational grazing decreases space and GHGs. 100

Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Not free range, regenerative. Im surprised you haven’t heard of it tbh. Rotational grazing is one example. Also 98% of farms in NA are family owned and operated and factory farms are more uncommon than you think (source: USDA and Stats Canada) 100

Canada has always been fine with that, as long as the American food standards are the same as Canadian food standards. US food producers don't want to. Because then they might have to give the US high quality food standards also. 52430518

Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 25/08/2026They’re not unsustainable, though. That’s vegan propaganda you’ve bought into. They’re completely sustainable if farmed regeneratively. And we rely on them for SO many things OTHER THAN FOOD that don’t have synthetic equivalents. You don’t need to eat them, but you still rely on them daily. 100
Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 25/08/2026I absolutely agree. No-till conventional is a better system, imho. But many conventional farmers still rely on manure for fertilizer, since it’s better for soil health and requires FAR less fossil fuels/energy to produce, and can usually be sourced locally (so less transport emissions). 000
Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 25/08/2026So how do you feel about organic crops? Because organic farmers rely on animal agriculture as well, notably for soil inputs (since we’re not allowed to use synthetic fertilizer). Regenerative farming also relies on animals. (And again, you’re reading this on a screen that relies on beef byproducts) 100
Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 24/08/2026And it doesn't change the fact that we still use every single part, nothing goes to waste. We have for centuries. It's fine if you don't want to eat them, there's nothing wrong with that, but you still benefit from the industry in your daily life. (2/2) 000
Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Every single animal consumes/burns more calories than their carcass will carry. That's basic science. But those animals eat many things humans do not; ruminants can graze nonarable land. Pasture beef eats grass. Lot fed beef often eat hay and silage (which are byproducts of crops for humans). Rex Personthing @rexpersonthing.bsky.social · 23/08/2026The beef industry is absolutely integral to daily life. Every single part of the cattle gets used. Your phone screen has beef byproducts. The drywall and insulation in your house. Many, many electronics. Almost all vehicles. Industrial/construction adhesives. And manure is used for organic crops. 100
