I think the obsession with the Oxford comma is pedantic and over hyped, especially since these supposed champions of clarity rarely embrace the semi-colon with such fervor. I think context clues and better sentence construction can clear up most confusion examples from the Oxford comma obsessives.

Someone who I haven't spoken to since my mom moved into hospice last summer: "How's your mom doing?" I feel like there's no small talk way to be like "She stayed in hospice until she died. But not before my sister's sudden and unrelated death." Like I'm all out of euphemisms and silver linings.
