Adam Hamilton @hamilton4kansas.bsky.social · 2h
🚨 100+ Kansas Republicans just launched Republicans for Hamilton, a statewide coalition backing Adam for U.S. Senate. The list includes former governors Bill Graves and Mike Hayden, a former Senate President, a former House Majority Leader, and Roger Marshall’s primary opponent.

this is why criticising democrats for saying "a war that no one wanted" seems a bit hollow to me

SASHA'S TWO (so far) IRON LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE 1. Two things can be true at the same time. 2. Bad things can be bad without being maximally bad.

well also both of his parents lived into their 90s, and fred even also had a precipitous mental decline. but it lasted a decade or more, not just a few years

the government can do a lot of bad things but it is usually via inaction or via budgetary procedure

the people in positions of power are not the ones actually engineering the solutions. this is like saying trump could've turned the COVID vaccine into a lethal injection

asking people to make am exception to this because of a previous genocide they've only read about and structural discrmination that is mostly a thing of the past (absolutely exceptions apply) is not an easy thing to do. it makes people suspicious.

that was not what this person was talking about people should be able to understand why antisemitism is bad without needing to understand the holocaust
000
sasha (they/them) @returnedknyaz.bsky.social · 21h
people search for and absorb information about things that feel the most directly relevant to them; history doesn't score very high on that list unless there are other reasons why it would (see the civil rights era for black americans)

sasha (they/them) @returnedknyaz.bsky.social · 21h
young people don't really understand the holocaust very well, but like, why do they need to? it was 80 years ago. those events have basically no relevance in the average 25yo's life right now. of course i wish most people were more historically literate, but it's not like it's that necessary

the Holocaust continues to get further and further away. while we’re all disgusted by the atrocities that were committed then, the genocide of our times is *currently* happening in front of our eyes. I just don’t know how else folks are supposed to respond.

if we're gonna treat anecdata more seriously than it deserves, i know a ton of people (my age and younger) who subscribe to the opinion that is "what israel is doing is fucked up and it's literally not the jews' fault at all, jews are cool"

you're literally doing the thing that enables this; conflating Jewish existence with that of the existence of the State of Israel. this is a thing we should stop doing, as the only Jews guilty of anything regarding Palestine are the ones in the current Israeli government.

sasha (they/them) @returnedknyaz.bsky.social · 21h
'not showing total deference to the state of israel' getting coded as 'antisemitism' is a thought-terminating cliche that benefits the israeli far right, who are war criminals

nah i actually do not think young people are by and large stupid enough to blame jews writ large for the actions of one genocidal cabal of ethnofascists in charge of one country. if we could stop concern trolling about this and keep eyes on the ball that'd be awesome.

Nepal is in the grip of a devastating climate crisis that has displaced families and left thousands missing. The Trump administration must act now to grant TPS to eligible Nepali nationals. We urge this designation to protect Nepalis from a forced return to danger.

Call out the gerontocracy, say it shouldn’t be normal for someone to accept a 6-year term when they’re 73, but I’m really not a fan of all the people talking about Collins’ tremor. It’s a lifelong progressive condition that does not come with cognitive decline.

Keisha Bottoms: My opponent said he wants to be Trump's favorite governor. He said there's not a single policy that he disagrees with Trump on. I will stand up to Trump when necessary. So many people across this state have lost their jobs directly related to the policies coming from the White House

Keisha Bottoms: In the city of Atlanta, we were able to raise our minimum wage for our employees to $15 an hour, that living wage should be applied across the state. I will have the ability to implement that as governor, and I will strongly encourage private employers to follow suit

this is exactly the right thing to nail her on. her bipartisan credentials depend on voters perceiving her as not aligning with the far right on every issue. admitting she was wrong would demonstrate that strength, but she won't do it!
