The endless grind of designing a baseline for French troops in Trench Crusade #art #trenchcrusade

A picture of a French soldier I did for myself for the universe of Trench Crusade. He is wearing what seems to be a blend of a paratrooper smock/uniform and a surcoat, with a loose dagged-edged bottom and sleeves while the torso is riveted onto a cuirasse. It's worn over a plain plate harness painted blueish grey and a maille hauberk, while also incorporating shoulder rolls, pockets and rank insignias like a WW1 uniform jacket. The military webbing and cartridge boxes worn over it have medieval brass buckles and decorations, with a scabbard suspension system made of chains hooked onto it. Both a short arming sword and a dagger are carried that way on his hips. The soldier's neck is covered by both a maille standard and a military gorget, bearing the arms of alt-France of three bees on a field of blue. His head is protected by a an elaborate Adrian helmet with hinged cheekpieces and a faceplate from a Savoyard helm. He's carrying a P1 hand grenade with a stick handle in one hand, and in the other a Chassepot rifle with a short butt stock and crossbow trigger, and its barrel reinforced by a full-length brass languette before ending in a poleaxe head and a bayonet.
