Last month, I hit the final city on my 2026 town hall tour where I hosted a town hall in every city I represent & spoke to neighbors in every city in CA12. Your perspectives & concerns on issues that impact our communities are invaluable to me as I fight for the protections and resources we deserve.

For too long, Black and brown communities have been subjected to discriminatory practices at the hands of our own government without proper accountability or acknowledgement. That legacy of racial inequality continues today as the Admin. kills American citizens & terrorizes immigrant communities.

Hearing the lived experiences of people whose family members and neighbors were murdered by ICE - and the dehumanization, coverups, and lies that their own government pushed in the aftermath, was absolutely heartbreaking.

To close out Congressional Black Caucus week, I hosted a breakfast for constituents in town. We came together to remember that our history wasn’t inherited easily. It was carved in sacrifice, in imagination, in refusal. We belong to a lineage of Dellums & Lee, of Black Panthers, of freedom fighters.

This week, I introduced my SEVENTH bill to help support small businesses. The "504 Program Level Flexibility Act," would give the SBA flexibility to raise the level of financing available in the 504 loan program during times of high demand.

This new design will expand the size of the Port’s existing turning basins, which will allow the Port of Oakland to accommodate larger and more efficient modern cargo ships. Projects like these keep our port competitive on the global scale AND boost economic activity and jobs in Oakland - let's go!

Millions of workers still risk their lives in the shadows now, with no representation. Legislation like the PRO Act and the National Domestic Workers Bill of Rights would end that. Ask every member of Congress whether they have signed on.

Oakland was shut down for two and a half days, and it is still the last city-wide general strike this country has had. The landmark labor laws of the 1930s left out farm and domestic workers because an overwhelming majority of those workers were Black.

It’s Labor Day. In 1946, 400 clerks at Kahn’s & Hastings m–most of them women– walked out after a worker was fired for joining a union. When police escorted scab trucks through the picket line, trolley operators left their cars sitting in the street. Longshoremen came off the docks in solidarity.

Gloria Steinem was a trailblazing organizer who devoted each breath of her life to securing a better future for women and girls in this country and beyond. She is one of the reasons I am here in this chamber today. Thank you, Gloria, for all that you gave to the world.

As President Trump continues his lawless war in Iran, the costs keep rising on working people. Instead of ending the war, advocating for their constituents as they were elected to do, and working to lower costs - Congressional Republicans are scapegoating Black and brown people and immigrants.

Republicans claim to care about children & families - then turn around & write discrimination into law. They gutted the Dept. of Ed, slashed funding for SNAP & Social Security, enacted brutal & traumatizing family separation & lock children away in trailer prisons with subpar food, air, &healthcare.

While Republicans carry out an illegal war in Iran, lawlessly attack immigrant communities, & undermine the electoral process – I cannot vote to give a single cent to the Trump Admin. I will not keep the machinery moving at the expense of the dignity, justice, and people we were elected to serve.
Congresswoman Simon’s Vote on the Continuing Resolution

“Today I voted against H.R. 6500, the continuing resolution which would continue to fund President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ deeply harmful and authoritarian agenda.

“I thank House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro for her work to improve House Republicans’ initial continuing resolution, specifically for securing provisions to prohibit immigration enforcement funding and to temporarily block the proposed Office of Management and Budget rule that would empower Trump Administration officials to discriminate against Federal grant recipients based solely on their political viewpoints. “However, at a time when Republicans are carrying out an illegal war in Iran, lawlessly attacking immigrant communities, and undermining the democratic electoral process – I cannot vote to give a single cent to the Trump Administration.

I will not keep the machinery moving at the expense of the dignity, justice, and people we were elected to serve.”

If Chairman Comer can subpoena a witness to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee on immigration issues, then he can certainly subpoena AG Todd Blanche to testify about the Trump Administration's cover-up of the Epstein Files.

Taking the leap to start and run a Black-owned business is an act of liberation, freedom, and economic justice. Supporting Black-owned businesses is an act of solidarity and recognition. So many Black-owned businesses are not just shops - they are community and cultural agents of change.
