With this and some workflow improvements I made for myself, I'm all set to keep working on the rest of the prerenders. Next up is Link's house. The market was the biggest time sink by far. I expect the rest to be easy.

(As usual, these are N64 hardware screenshots) The crowd NPC is rough. I can't rig everyone with all the bones you'd expect or I will kill the N64, so I had to simplify the skeleton a lot. This means the animation is pretty simplistic. The Recomp version will probably have a more complex rig.

I still see a lot of confusion about what decompilation, recompilation and ports are and what level of effort is involved in each type of project. It's important that people understand the difference, as recompilation took a drastically different meaning that when it was originally introduced.

Wow, holy crap. The current state of PPSSPP might be the perfect example of going off the deep end with AI slop in software dev. What I'm showing in these screenshots goes on for dozens and dozens of pages. This emulator is straight up exclusively developed by Claude now.

Dude, this is genuinely so fucking disappointing. Nearly all of the commits I’ve seen for PPSSPP involve generative AI from Claude in the past week alone, and their entire newest dev blog is almost entirely written by Claude. Almost half of the commits in the past 3 months use Claude for AI code.

AI bros are NOT beating the "lacking basic respect and common sense" allegations. We've already said we're doing Tooie, and we already did the first game. There is no reason to do a slopcomp other than wanting to be the first one to plant the flag at the expense of everyone else.

We're not interested in engaging a race to the bottom and will take the time that is necessary to deliver a polished version of the game. Using the extensive amount of human research we've done for the framework, the renderer and the games themselves and throwing AI at it is just disrespectful.
