"With a good home, everything is possible." Great to hear that the Government will crack down on landlords renting out homes that damage people's health. The Government should go one step further by bringing Awaab's Law into privately rented homes ASAP.

🚨NEW: The government has announced a new rent determination service. This could help renters in future with a quick answer to whether a rent increase is above market rate. But it does nothing to tackle the high cost of rent. We need rent caps for all renters - now.

The number of children living in the private rented sector has tripled – from 1.1. million children in 2000-01 to 3.2 million in 2024-25. As a result, children are now more likely than adults to live in the tenure (23 per cent compared to 22 per cent).

We welcome the Housing Committee's calls to bring in Awaab's Law ASAP. It's impossible not to be appalled by the thought of children living in life-threatening conditions. A landlord who can’t ensure their home is safe to live in shouldn’t be a landlord in the first place.
