Please submit your small ideas for fixing Britain to the Small-Ideas.org website. It’s a new charitable initiative I’ve set up to try and make sure life’s potholes don’t get ignored. Working with two charities and a cross party panel to turn your ideas into policy then try and make it happen.

This seems similar to what has happened in the Arts, especially for under 18s. Yet the creative industries are one of the UK's strengths and have been one of the fastest growing sectors in recent years. Feels like an avoidable downward spiral.

Free wills can be very expensive for your heirs bit.ly/4uNc9ev solicitors make more money from badly drawn wills than from writing them. So always use a solicitor to write your will. And if you leave money to charity make it a specified amount not the residue of the estate - that avoids disputes.

When will policymakers recognise that the digital information environment is impacting views of London in a way that can hit investment and tourism? This is one clip from several vignettes outlined in @jim.londoncentric.media’s latest newsletter www.londoncentric.media/p/london-cri...
I was in Dubai at the end of last year, travelling for the F1 in Abu Dhabi and had a very odd experience with a taxi driver. I mentioned to him that I lived in London, and he immediately started talking about how dangerous it was and how I ought to be careful. He described how crime had been going up, how people were getting jewellery stolen off them in the street and that knives were everywhere.
The way he talked made him sound very familiar with the place so I assumed he had lived in or at least visited London recently. Only later did he say that he'd never been to London or the UK and that his entire impression was based on what he'd seen on social media and heard from other people in his cab.

Neil Coyle MP has written a brutal takedown letter to Nigel Farage for his breach of parliamentary protocol, because Farage visited Coyle's London constituency without notifying him. 10/10 no notes. (H/T @simonpegg.bsky.social)
HOUSE OF COMMONS

LONDON SWIA OAA

Nigel Farage MP

House of Commons London

SW1A OAA

13 January 2026

Mr Farge,

Visiting Bermondsey and Old Southwark

I am writing following your public engagement on 7th January in London Bridge, which is in my constituency: Bermondsey and Old Southwark.

I appreciate you are unfamiliar with constituency requirements given your inattention to Clacton since being elected. But given you have spent three decades in and around Parliament, you should be aware that established protocol requires any MP conducting official business in another Member's constituency to notify the relevant Member in advance. You failed to follow parliamentary protocol on this matter last week. As someone who has so desperately attempted to be in Westminster for such a long time, I hope you are capable of learning and adhering to procedures, although I won't hold my breath.

Given you have described our capital city as 'crime-ridden' and 'unsafe' it must have been very difficult for you to pluck up the courage to book a venue in the centre of the capital for your event to promote yet another Tory defect in your ranks. But please do conform to the rules should you ever come back.

Your preference for spending time in London rather than Clacton (which is your constituency by the way), demonstrates the typically deceitful nature of your attacks on our capital. Deep down, you agree with me and the millions of UK and international visitors every year, that London remains our greatest city and well worth spending time in!

I would say I look forward to your next visit to the best constituency, in the best city, in the best country on the planet, but unlike you and the former Tories who riddle your party, I am not comfortable spouting untruths.

Sincerely,

Neil

Neil Coyle MP

‘If a drug boasted such benefits [as the arts] governments would be pouring billions into it. Instead, funding has been slashed across the culture sector.’ www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Art Cure by Daisy Fancourt, professor of psychobiology and epidemiology at University College London, brings together numerous research projects confirming what we have always suspected - art is good for us. It helps us enjoy happier, healthier and longer lives. One study found that people who engaged regularly with the arts had a 31% lower risk of dying at any point during the follow-up period, even when confounding socioeconomic, demographic and health factors were taken into account.
Studies also show that visiting museums and attending live music events can make people physiologically younger, and a monthly cultural activity almost halves our chances of depression. As Fancourt argues, if a drug boasted such benefits governments would be pouring billions into it. Instead, funding has been slashed across the culture sector and arts education has been devalued and eroded in the UK.

Are you a higher 40% (or top 45%) rate taxpayer who donates to charity via Gift Aid who's now doing your tax return? Remember the charity claimed tax back at the basic 20% rate, you can usually claim now the rest back (and maybe then donate it too!)
