We’re horrified by the violence and intimidation in Dover and Portsmouth this weekend. For years, far right rhetoric has been pushed into the mainstream by many politicians and sections of the media. This weekend, these ideas were acted upon.

75 years ago, the world came together and made a promise: people fleeing persecution have the right to seek safety. The Refugee Convention has provided the legal foundation for education, housing, access to justice and legal protection for people on the move. It's saved millions of lives.

Governments in the UK and Greece are making it harder than ever for people on the move to find safety. Changes to their asylum systems are deliberate choices, designed to deter, to exclude, and to make things harder for people seeking safety.
