We were interviewing Gloria Steinem in 2000 for a documentary about Nixon and asked this question of every interviewee (many of whom had worked with Nixon inside the WH), Steinem was the ONLY person to challenge the question itself. We interviewed her in this very room and I was blown away..

Asked if the nature of politics means that only the corrupt and selfish can succeed, Steinem challenged the question, explaining how this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy and that if we believe in something better-selflessness, respect for others-then something better becomes a possibility.
