And up to this past year, following the unfortunate death of poet Tyrone Williams--the last David Gray Chair of Poetry and Letters--in 2024, the Dean of Arts and Sciences has been taking a 60% cut of the Gray Chair endowment for "administrative costs."

The David Gray endowment to UB--the principal source of funding for Poetics Program--is managed by the UB Foundation, which has seen fit to reappropriate it to other faculty lines in the English Department
