Stephen A. Smith received a Thumbs Down Award from The National Association of Black Journalists. The ESPN host and YouTube personality was singled out for his “recurring public pattern of disparaging commentary directed at prominent Black women across politics, sports, and media.”

It has been criminally underreported but Kelsey Pfendler has just rowed solo across the Pacific Ocean from the US coast to Hawaii in record time. A 2,400-mile unsupported journey in 43 days, 17 hours, and 55 minutes. Notably beating the Men’s record by 9 whole days.

Got a new second monitor. This is doing wonders for my writing already. I produced around 1300 words just while goofing off, since my work was always looking at me from the side.

The fanfiction gambit worked, I had a productive day of editing and all it took was a mere 1300 words of fun in exchange. I'll take that deal anytime.

Comparing people’s living conditions in 1901 to now is already silly & serves no meaningful purpose so let’s talk about numbers that matter to Alive People In 2016 Elon Musk’s wealth was 11 billion dollars. Today it is 800 billion dollars. Federal minimum wage in 2009 was 7.25. Today it is 7.25.

My writing advice? If you are American, NEVER quit your day job. Even if you are doing OK and can pay your rent and eat your food Old age will come to you whether you like it or not. If you don't have a 401K, and some assets built up you are fucked Your writing career will end. Your life will not.

“I dont think my art is good enough to make this comic/webtoon/visual novel/game” You should make it, because even if your art isnt where you want it to be, the constant practice you gain while working on a project will rapidly improve your skills as oppose to just waiting

You know something that can help people liking their own art... having people telling them they like it "If you dont like your own art nobody will" it's not true, you will always find people who'll like it, please never stop sharing your art because you think it's not good enough

Finished my revised outline for my fantasy novel this past week. I also made a spreadsheet for differing modes of travel between cities in the region. There isn't much on-screen travel in the region, but it's important to how people conceptualize travel.

At some point people have to realize that the secret for writing teenagers is that teenager are, surprisingly, people who experience the same emotions and connections we all do, and not a different species of alien who communicate solely through modern slang and hip tech references

and if you can believe it... it's twin peaks day once again #art
Illustration of the show twin peaks. The setting is inside the black lodge, next to a lamp post with a strong light source is a statue, two hands in a strange formation & a cup of coffee turned upside down pouring out. Underneath is dale cooper walking next to a mirror image of himself. The doppelgänger is looking at the viewer with one shining eye. At the top left and bottom right corners are a symbol of two triangles, representing the two mountain peaks of twin peaks

Don't enter this. You'll lose all rights to your story. Period. Competitions like this need to be called out, so they learn their good reputation shouldn't be used to steal the bread from writers' mouths. And that we're not all clueless rubes waiting to be taken advantage of.

Going back after a draft to work on worldbuilding is always fun. I figured out the story needs more religion and the timeline for the establishment of some cities. This changes the cultural texture of the whole region.

listen i understand we're all reeling from revelations about an artist using ai, but can we not use "using [] as a crutch" as an insult its language that needs to be left in the past. to use the name of a disability aid as something meant to invoke shame is ableist, straight up

Today I've been looking up things about parthenogenesis in lizards. Mostly just to see if there are any new examples to be discovered. The big lizard people are the fourth most populous people in the city of Myriad, at about 14,000 people.

Knowing what people carry around is a good pre-writing exercise because while everyone probably has a knife depending on the time period, it's less likely that they'll have something that really raises eyebrows in a small bag.

Made a chart today of an important organization. With 26 members it often helps to know who invited them first and when they joined so you can spot possible factions.

This new draft is coming along nicely, but I'm finding that my character cards didn't have the information I wanted, so I've gotta go back and make sure that looks nice before I actually need it in later chapters.

I'm honestly very thankful for Scrivener, which lets me just wipe a draft to the non-compile section and just make another outline in its place.

I finished my revised outline today and wrote over 600 words. That was the daily count on the previous draft, so I know I can do it again. Very excited to write this draft.

Sometimes it's important to get the pieces of computer paper out, write numbers in irregular spacing, and then try to fit the entire outline on a sheet or two so that everything looks right. Now that I've got that, I'm ready to return to the computer with a new outline.

Outlining done for the next book, science fiction at 30 chapters before anything big changes. I'm excited to see exactly how this one gets there, as it started as one thing years ago, but now I'm shaving it down and improving it from its original form.

When I'm doing early plotting on a novel, blank printer paper is key. I've been using a pilot G2 to write on it. It's very important to hand-write some part of it early because I do most of my actual drafting in Scrivener.
