All cars can fly: most only manage once off the edge of a cliff.. At least those cars are "road legal" and so can be driven as cars.

£10 spent on benefits isn't just £10 lost, it's £10 that will then be spent on food, or rent which keeps circulating in the economy. £10 given to big businesses in a tax cut just ends up in a profit margin, or a millionaire shareholders pocket. Its likely never spent again.

Remember every pearl-clutching journalist and commentator who insisted it was in the public interest to know every single detail of a Cambridge academic's life, even after he resigned his position, because he did some sloppy copy-and-pasting as a post-grad student?

Same with Forrest Gump: allegedly Winston Groom (the original author) was on a profit-share agreement and the studio argued that the $678m takings movie which cost $55m to make never made a profit so they didn't have to pay him. They were surprised when he wouldn't then sell the rights to the sequel

I think if it goes ahead, either Hesketh or Trump themselves should have to pull the trigger.I doubt either of them would actually have the "will" to do so. I wonder if we could goad Trump into bottling it in front of the cameras "which will have high viewers which you don't want to miss out on sir!"

This is a good example of why I am not a fan of the pivot to podcasts/audio articles. It says it takes 6 minutes to read (actually about 3 mins max), but 9 minutes to listen to. Audio is just such a SLOW way to consume words.

okay so this anecdote in Margaret's obituary has me crying because this is exactly what it's like being in tech and trying to anticipate failures and having men basically tell you you're being hysterical and then you have to fix it later
"the Lauren error": One day, her daughter Lauren, then four years old, was playing with the command module simulator at the
Instrumentation Lab when she somehow activated a pre-launch program, called P01, while the simulator was in midflight - which
crashed the simulator altogether. Hamilton created a program add-on in the technical documentation warning users not to launch P01 during flight.
She also proposed a software fix to prevent the error happening during a real mission, but she was overruled on the grounds that the highly trained astronauts were never going to make that same mistake. Yet during the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, that's exactly what happened: Jim Lovell inadvertently launched P01 during the flight, causing the on-flight navigational data to vanish. Hamilton and her team were called in to solve the error, and after that her proposed changes were integrated into the program. This was an early example of "defensive" programming, the
