I like to frame it this way to explain that yes, you gain a lot of things and you lose only a few. Because puberty builds things in your body but will never unbuild others. Things like deep voice, hair, breasts, those will not go away on their own once they are here, it'll need outside help.

Taking estrogen or testosterone literally just induces and more or less sustains puberty (plus the things they do day-to-day) Okay puberty is commonly understood as the process where a kid starts to become an adult, but it's more about developing the traits that adults commonly have and kids don't.
