sometimes I’ll be doing a material study with paint and something happens that makes me go “oooh maybe this is a painting?” then a few layers later i do way too much and i start to feel demoralized then immediately go “well, this is an interesting material study!” and honestly? doing the bit helps

Hadn’t made one of these in awhile. Early fall light, remembering New York.

Gouache treated like watercolor—many overlapping irregular vertical rectangles in muted blues, greens and browns from deep to light wash. They bleed into and through each other in places giving the impression of dappled light.
