The text is judgey for sure, and most of the time you just want to fight a monster. But I do think that there is and should be space for more, and we shouldn't judge every book by the # of bullet points it has or it's immediate playability. I think all of these things can be true at the same time.

And this is not just the hobbyist problem, it would be great if it was. Functional literacy is in decline in general. We can point and laugh at individuals (if we want to be asshats), but it's a systemic problem that's only getting worse.

Root the RPG is my fave example of folx being convinced that it's a good game based on illustrations, hype, and the success of the board game. And it takes the spotlight from much better games (almost any game is better). So there's the harm I guess.
