An image with text that reads: Description: Discussing converting fanfiction to original fiction provokes a wide range of strong reactions, from utter condemnation to enthusiastic support. Conversations on this topic often come from people who are outside fandom, though, and involve a lot of things declared as universals that are anything but. For example, trying to convert a canon-compliant or canon-verse fic is very different than trying to convert an AU fic. These takes often come from a place of denigrating fanfiction, and therefore assuming that any original work made by converting a fanwork must be derivative, mediocre, or poor. Well, the authors at Duck Prints Press are all fanauthors as well as original fic authors, and we know that, much like any writing, a converted fanwork can be terrible or excellent, derivative or original. Thus, in this panel we’ll be taking a nuanced approach to discussing the strong reactions that the fanwork-to-ofic process provokes. (cut for length)

Three books: Heretical Fishing by Haylock Jobson, volumes 1 and 2, and Moonflow by Bitter Karella. The Heretical Fishing books have very colorful fishing scenes illustrated on the covers. Moonflow has a psychedelic pink/blue cover with mushrooms, a person, and a skull.

Never chop off too many of a chunk from the entire cake, and do not mangle the edges badly. Loose leaves will lose flavor quickly, so take less than you think you will need. When you add the leaves, the water should have boiled but not be boiling hot anymore. Let it sit for the desired strength, but not more than one turn, otherwise the bitterness will be overwhelming.”
