Xan Manning @rantomatic.com · 25/09/2026Cycle to school week is imminent. As a parent who already cycles the sprog to school, I hope that week involves less cars overtaking too close, opening doors on me, overtaking on a blind bend and adults crossing the road without looking. Unfortunately all 4 happened to me TODAY. 010 1

Xan Manning @rantomatic.com · 22/05/2026Sometimes information is confidential and there’s typically a contract between myself and trusted peers to know what information needs to stay on a “need to know” basis. Xan Manning @rantomatic.com · 22/05/2026I can also often trust a junior engineer to be selective with information they share when they need to, I can’t say as much about AI… where do those conversational sessions ultimately go? I mean I’d never throw a junior under a bus acting under my instruction, and I’m not being unethical, but 100 1

Xan Manning @rantomatic.com · 22/05/2026Human juniors also drink less water than AI. The junior has better memory (although sometimes selective). Xan Manning @rantomatic.com · 22/05/2026Junior or maybe a mid-level engineer to do my work for me, but I have to be super explicit about instructions and providing context. This so called “junior” has amnesia, unless his brain, the context, is written down on disk. Why don’t I just do work with a human junior? They’d use less electricity. 100 1
Xan Manning @rantomatic.com · 22/05/2026Hands on problem solving! Sure you think though problems, the AI tries to solve them, but the “aha!” moment when you solve the problem yourself, using your own smarts and the journey of learning and the hit of dopamine… it’s gone(ish).
