This law was enacted before Arizona was a state and before women had the right to vote. Effectively, conservative justices in Arizona are using a law designed in a completely different political system to prohibit women from accessing abortion.

I'm not joking when I say that at least half of Trump's judicial appointees are un-hireable in the private sector. They lack the skills, experience, and temperament to represent clients. So they bounced around political posts and conservative slush funds until, voila, they're lifetime judges now.

The recent shift is due to the shocking low caliber of judges appointed by GWBush & Trump. Previously, district and appellate judges had political leans, but generally operated within the confines of broader apolitical legal doctrines (standing, preemption, etc). Now they just don't care.

In an ordinary media environment, there would be some kind of pressure for Trump to denounce the bomb threat against the judge in his civil case, urge his supporters to be peaceful, and reflect on the way his rhetoric inspires terrorist threats and violence. But we don’t live in that world.
