Amba Thieves Tea comes from a small, organic farm in Uva, Sri Lanka. The name "Thieves Tea" comes from the days when workers were prohibited by plantation owners from taking tea from the fields — when it was meant to be sold as a luxury item. So they would sneak out raw leaves and make it at home.

A note on tariffs and your tea
We’ve heard lots of concerns this week over how new U.S. government tariffs will impact tea costs. The bottom line is that we still don’t know with certainty. It’s not looking great, however. To get right to the point, here are the announced tariffs on countries from which we import tea:

Laos: 48%
Vietnam: 46%
Sri Lanka: 44%
Myanmar: 44%
Bangladesh: 37%
Colombia: 10%
Nepal: 10%
Rwanda: 10%
Georgia: 10%Companies that import from traditional tea exporters to the U.S. are also facing similar challenges:

China: 34%
Taiwan: 32%
India: 27%
Japan: 24%

What we don’t know yet is how these tariffs will ultimately affect the price you pay at checkout. We’ll be in discussions this coming week with our suppliers to determine what, if anything, can be done to lessen the impact. Whenever we have the ability to absorb costs, we will. For now, everything in our inventory was purchased pre-tariff and current pricing reflects that. In the coming weeks, we’ll be bringing in fresh tea from spring flushes and it will give us more clarity on what steps we may need to take.

As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at hello@rakkasantea.com.

Tea brings people together, and we intend to stick with our growers and you, our loyal customers, to get through this challenging period.
