Precise structural and functional organization of the olfactory bulb neuropil early in development, revealed by volume EM, dense reconstruction and 2P calcium imaging in zebrafish. Great work by Ruth and others in collaboration with @michalwj.bsky.social www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Fine ultrastructural organization of glomerular neuropil in the developing zebrafish olfactory bulb
Across animal phyla, odor information is represented in the first olfactory processing center by combinatorial activation of discrete glomeruli. To examine how this organization of olfactory processin...

Just out in Nat Neurosci: disentangling of neural odor manifolds in "olfactory cortex" of adult zebrafish after learning. Great work by Bo, Nesibe et al and wonderful collaboration with @sueyeonchung.bsky.social that fundamentally changed my view of olfactory cortex. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

1/11 Excited to share my postdoc work from @schierlab.bsky.social and Rainer Friedrich! 🐟👃 How does the brain decide whether an odor is good or bad? In larval zebrafish, we find that odor preference is reflected in spatially cohesive neuronal domains of the olfactory bulb. 🧵

New preprint by Tommaso: olfactory cortex (of zebrafish) represents not only odor information but also temporal context, and these multimodal representations are sharpened after learning. And check out Tommaso's new method for 2P imaging in awake adult zebrafish! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Joint experience-dependent representations of odors and temporal context in the zebrafish homolog of piriform cortex
Intelligent behavior requires experience-dependent internal representations of relevant information. We examined representational learning in telencephalic area pDp of adult zebrafish, the homolog of ...

Imaging of activity in the telencephalon of adult zebrafish moving through a virtual reality revealed amazingly precise, structured internal representations of spatial environments. And they get better over time! Great work by Kim! Thanks also to Sriram and Jan. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Dynamic cognitive representations in the dorsal pallium of adult zebrafish
Brains rely on internal models of the world to interpret sensory input and to simulate the future. In the mammalian hippocampal-entorhinal network, environments are represented by cognitive maps that ...

Ultrastructural reconstruction of hundreds of neurons by volume EM revealed cell types and a precise glomerular organization in the zebrafish olfactory bulb. A heroic effort by Nila! Special thanks to Nila @michalwj.bsky.social and the whole team! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Deep anatomical and ultrastructural classification of neurons in the zebrafish olfactory bulb
Neuronal circuits in the olfactory bulb (OB) perform computations fundamental to pattern classification including a decorrelation and normalization of odor-evoked activity. These computations are medi...
