We rarely post on social media calls for submissions because (1) we never close for submissions (2) we get plenty of submissions. But, we thought, why not, let's remind people we are (1) free to submit to and (2) pay $75/short story. #litmag #fiction buff.ly/K79OL9S

Happy birthday! And, yes, we never stop missing our moms after they're gone. Mine passed away in 2002, which is hard to believe. Wishing you the best for the next year!

So this is the best news. I really admire both Jennifer and Stephanie, so I am thrilled to get to work with them. This collection is full of 90s horror pop culture and explores being a teen in small town Texas where horror was a lifeline 🖤

🧵 Attention, Fellow SFF Artists and Authors -- here is my response to Must Read Magazines, after they presented an Asimov's art contract expecting me to waive all Moral Rights and Copyright to my art. And, I would strongly advise the following to my fellow pros…. 1/
John Picacio’s response to Must Read Magazine’s request for his waiver of all Moral Rights and Copyright of his commissioned art for an ASIMOV’S assignment. Short version — Picacio says a resounding NOPE.

When Congress appropriated this money, it was intended to fund a wide range of research and projects. The Trump Administration cannot simply ignore Congress and withhold or redirect funds it doesn’t want to spend. It's illegal.

Agency Diverted $1.4 Billion in Science Funds Mandated by Congress
The move, affecting about one-fifth of the National Science Foundation’s primary research budget, is the latest sign of how the White House is asserting more control over grants.

It all started on this day. Thank you for a wonderful twenty years.
Text in the center reads: 20 Years Oct. 2006 - Oct. 2026, clarkesworldmagazine.com

(right) Cover art for issue 241 by Marcel Deneuve is "Labyrinths of Azarax" and features a blue and white mechanical eye in a circular opening looking at a small, white, glowing humanoid figure standing on a large pipe in the tunnel. Many pipes line the walls, all heading out to the main room. Pipes are yellow and gray. Room beyond is blue.

(left) Cover art for issue 1 by Tomasz Pietrzyk is "The Town of the Towers" and features a surreal town of yellowy white distorted towers with reddish orange roofs that overhang the towers and rise to a point. Mishapen dark windows and doors are scattered about on the buildings. Orange sky gives the entire piece a warm tone.

We had one that did that for awhile, but I started giving it acid-loving fertilizer (from MiracleGro) every two weeks and it's now green and healthy again. Even had flowers earlier this year. Good luck!

Yeah, I saw that, but I really don't need them (since I have them already somewhere else). I'd just like to make sure FB doesn't get to keep them, but I'm not sure this "backup" they have is actually going to be deleted.

Raima Larter @raimalarter.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Have too many other things to do! I will give it a couple days so people see my Bsky address first, but will try it later this week. Fingers crossed it'll work.

And the "unspecified error message" is worrisome. Were you actually able to delete the account?

Raima Larter @raimalarter.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Yeah, I saw that, but I don't really need them since I've got copies of everything I cared about. I just didn't want to go through the trouble of deleting them all if FB was going to do it for me, and they still might hold the backup for 30 days.

Raima Larter @raimalarter.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Just posted a note on FB that I'll be deleting that account in a few days and directing people here, to BlueSky. Now I just need to decide how many more days to give it...and it's not going to be very many.

This article says the photos will be deleted along with the account, but not for 30 days. If this is true, it's good, but I'd prefer it to be faster.

I'm thinking about deleting my FB account since they've forced me into a Meta account and the terms of service allow them to use my photos in any AI-assisted content they care to make. My current question: will all my photos be deleted when I delete the account? I hope so, but I sort of doubt it.

White House is violating court’s order with impunity, and CNN, MSNOW, and Politico are heading back to court. DOJ’s options are to admit incompetence or confess contempt of a court order and the rule of law.

It's been so good - totally scrambled my thinking for awhile, but I think it's because I was learning! We're trying to find the theme that connects a body of work, aiming toward an eventual book. It's been intense but so productive.

Interesting - I've been having the same kind of week! Granted, it's because I'm taking a poetry class and have to write new poem drafts for it. But, yes, it's so consuming of energy and attention. Yesterday I worked on 3 different pieces, which led to near-total collapse! lol

Tattered Cover is not what it used to be - but they have new owners, so may have improved since I did my book signing there a few years ago. There's also Bookies, on the south side, that I've heard good things about.

Moods, Memories, and Mishaps: Immersive Storytelling to Elevate Your Flash Fiction
Great flash fiction doesn't just tell a quick story. It conveys strong feeling and tone, goes deep with emotional history, and propels the reader irresistibly forward. In this three-part series of 90-minute workshops, we will explore three fundamental forces that will elevate your flash storytelling to the level of rich and resonant, unforgettable art.

These workshops offer a concentrated immersion into the art and craft of flash fiction, encouraging writers to take risks, write from the gut, and generate new work. Though centered on writing, sessions will also include some craft discussion, sharing of published examples, and writing tips.

Expect to generate new material in every session and leave with fresh drafts that surprise you.
