Appréhender l’auteur·rice de sciences humaines et sociales (SHS) comme un bien symbolique permet de montrer comment la réception française de la sociologie de Raewyn Connell – figure centrale de l’étude des masculinités à l’international – est indissociable de la formation d’un sous-champ d’études des masculinités en France. En s’appuyant sur un travail de thèse, l’article met en lumière comment, au tournant des années 2010, la référence aux travaux de Connell croît significativement dans les SHS françaises et comment un ensemble de traductions de ses travaux vers le français est réalisé. Ce sont particulièrement de jeunes chercheur·ses, regroupé·es au sein de l’EHESS, qui sont à l’œuvre et à qui Connell apparaît comme un bien symbolique, dont il est fait usage pour légitimer leurs propres recherches et participer à l’institutionnalisation de leurs thématiques de recherche.
