Busan has a new resident named Bukangi, a shark who started chilling in the canals near the train station a couple weeks ago. The city has been trying all sorts of schemes to gently lead her back to the ocean but she foils every attempt and swims back and forth being admired by crowds of fans.

One of the local Chinese language newspapers today had a feature on the upcoming election. It talked about how population growth doesn't automatically turn into political power unless one votes, and also had charts about voters of Chinese/Taiwanese/Hong Konger ancestry. #ResistanceRoots bell hooks was born on this day in 1952 in Hopkinsville, Ky. She was an author, educator, feminist and social critic whose work transformed contemporary discussions on gender, race and class. She pioneered the concept that these systems intersect to sustain social oppression. /1

Rather than confining her revolutionary ideas to the walls of academia, she dedicated her life to building a public philosophy that made radical critique accessible.
