This story is great, but the Soderbergh bit is a bummer. I'd wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt on AI, because he treats every new technology as a tool to mess around with in a kind of value-neutral way. I just don't know how he could miss that this particular tool absolutely sucks ass.

Rachel Handler, 🙏🏽 for falling on your sword. This was grim and (not the part I’m quoting) very funny! ‘“I have a pair,” he said, smiling. He and his comedy group were all 21 years of age. I told him I found the glasses creepy, an invasion of privacy. “Not at all,” he said. “We do pranks with them.”’

WGA Statement on ABC’s Decision to Pull Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The right to speak our minds and to disagree with each other - to disturb, even - is at the very heart of what it means to be a free people. It is not to be denied. Not by violence, not by the abuse of governmental power, nor by acts of corporate cowardice.
As a Guild, we stand united in opposition to anyone who uses their power and influence to silence the voices of writers, or anyone who speaks in dissent. If free speech applied only to ideas we like, we needn't have bothered to write it into the Constitution. What we have signed on to - painful as it may be at times - is the freeing agreement to disagree.
Shame on those in government who forget this founding truth. As for our employers, our words have made you rich.
Silencing us impoverishes the whole world.
The WA stands with Jimmy Kimmel and his writers.

This should be offered unpaywalled as a balm for our wounded psyches. A must-read. Pure art.
Like any profound near-death experience, AJLT was almost impossible to talk about.
That's in part because it did not believe in adhering to the laws of our physical realm but also because it did not believe in adhering to narrative laws or, probably, actual laws (complimentary). But we here at Vulture have tried. God, have we tried.
Historically, we've loved to rag on AJLT, but I have personally always done so in the way that I would rag on a beloved younger sibling with a minor head injury that was going to improve with time - lightly, lovingly, trying not to let them fall asleep mid-sentence. Well, apparently the head injury was not so minor after all.
And now that sibling is dead.
