No, we do not need to use AI for everything when a perfectly good, cheaper, and often faster deterministic way is available. Like all tools, AI has a place. But there is no tool whose place is "use everywhere all the time".

People think vibe-coding is new. It's not. For decades, when some developers were asked to build something, they ran off to immediately start coding before gathering requirements, planning, or designing the software.

Schrödinger wakes up, groggy, no memory of the last few hours, unsure of his surroundings. He seems to be confined inside some kind of box. There is a strange mechanism at one end of the box. His pulses quickens; from outside he hears a cat purring.

It’s worse than this. Having been in the room with many of them (long ago, before I knew they were psychopaths), the tycoons who are left running the industry have an active contempt for ordinary people, including their own workers. They actively want to oppress, control and punish them.

In 1999 you could get a full time tech job if you knew 3 html tags. 3 years later, after Dot-Com, you couldn’t get a job without a master’s and 10 years experience. That’s what this whole «I vibe coded myself to a Silicon Valley job» sounds like to me.

This month in a chat with the speakers of ESPC one of the United States based speakers asked about some travel gear recommendations. I shared my travel gear with them and they found it helpful. I thought it would be a good idea to share it with you all. I have been using this gear for a while now and I am very happy with it. I hope you find it helpful too.
