Better weather than expected today, have to make the most of it this time of year. Had lunch at Twice Brewed then walked along the lower path to Sycamore Gap and back. A lot of walkers out.
Part of Hadrian's Wall. A very old, ruined stone wall climbing away from the photographer. Grasses and moss grow in cracks. Two walkers up ahead on a grassy path through rolling open countryside. The sky is blue with clouds. The ground either side of the grass path is scrubby, ideal for grazing sheep.

When I first started public speaking I was worried about not knowing the answers to questions. I was told the best plan was to say you don't know and, if possible, suggest a way to find out, or offer to find out later and share the answer. I feel that many people today could do with this advice.

Using up some vacation days this week. I have lots of DIY and other jobs to do, but I found my pumpkin lights so started with the very important task of seasonal office decorations.
A box of pumpkin and leaf light strings, a black cat plushie sat on top of the lights. An open grid shelving unit with the pumpkin and leaf lights hung up.Small Firefox and Mozilla plush toys, A Book Apart books, and the Halloween lights.

That would be such a great feature for bank or credit card apps. Present you all your subscriptions, remind you how much you are spending annually, and give a quick route to cancel.

Got out on my run in time to catch an epic sky this morning.
A blood red sky over the lights of a closed petrol station. The red of the numbers indicating fuel prices mirror the colour of the sky.A medieval stone church with a small bell tower with a pink and purple sky behind. In the foreground are a few old gravestones in the grass.

This is a lovely post. I'm quite often asked if people from different browsers argue with each other in CSS meetings. I usually say it's a lot more "huh... yeah that's not good ... how do we fix it?" That's especially true when it comes to the sort of situations described here.

I'm getting this as well, also proposals for content for Google DevRel sites to my personal email address that are obvious AI slop (and all follow the same template). I enjoy promoting good stuff (it's one reason I restarted my newsletter) but slop is going right to the bin.

Two of my cats have food bowls that only open when the bowl registers their microchip, to stop Pixel stealing food. Pixel has now developed the skill of sensing a cat approaching their bowl then sprinting over to jam his head in as it opens to snatch food.

Remove start and end margins with the margin-trim property
A frequently asked multiple-column layout question is why a new paragraph at the start of the column has additional space above it. The space above the first column is the top margin of the initial paragraph. The space is the margin on the paragraph, which doesn't collapse if the paragraph is inside a multicol container....

The sunrise under the clouds this morning was pretty. I've had to get my running torch and hi-vis out of the winter box though.
Taken from a bridge looking down onto a small branch line rail station. A two carriage train is at the platform. The tracks run towards a bright orange sunrise below dark clouds, and the light reflects off the train roof which is otherwise in darkness. It's the sort of morning light that makes you expect rain.

What’s the problem w using LLMs to write stuff you want other people to read -emails, articles, posts- and why are people (like me!) so incredibly hostile that they will block you/mute you/block your domain, to never read anything from you again? Bryan spells it out. Read it:

The internet was absolutely a mistake but this is one of like five admissible pieces of evidence that it’s good actually
What I'm doing with my life
sometimes sheets can be propped up to be a cave but other times they lie flat like a ground. why is that
I'm looking for
• poposable thumbs
• Tall as counter
• Understanding of locks
• Warms
The first things people usually notice about me i am small enough to use pieces of furniture in different ways that are surprising to humans eg edge of the bed is actually a tiny step for me to use like a borrower
The six things I could never do without cold chickens, heated chickens, small dry pellet chickkens, chickens from a can with picture of cat on it, chickens from the sea (also in can but missing cat picutre on can), chicken from larger animals like beef
The most private thing I'm willing to admit iwill climb on top of you in the night and settle like a tiny rain cloud

I feel like we lost a lot of that as people stopped blogging. You used to be able to write a thing, and a couple of days later someone would respond on their blog, then someone else. Actual well thought out responses, not a quick reply on social media.
