The first of William McNeice’s PhD papers is out! In it, Billy shows how plant traits can be used to predict ranges of live fuel moisture. The paper also shows how leaf traits can have counter-acting influences on flammability. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Moisture content ranges in live Eucalyptus leaves vary among species and strongly affect ignitability - Fire Ecology
Background Although the extent and severity of fires is linked to moisture content in live and dead plant material, the ranges of moisture content occurring in live foliage are poorly defined. The bio...

Devastating news that marine biologist, science communicator, and UniMelb VC Professor Emma Johnston has died after a short illness. She really was an extraordinary and visionary leader, and I have no doubt she would have made a fine Chief Scientist one day. theconversation.com/emma-johnsto...

From plant traits to fire behavior: Scaling issues in flammability studies
Despite fire being one of the oldest and most important ecological disturbance processes on Earth, many aspects of fire–vegetation feedbacks are poorly understood, limiting their accurate representat...
