Like most American Jews, I'll be thrilled if Israeli voters oust Bibi in this year's elections. But I think many Jews are just assuming (or wishcasting) that Bibi's departure will cause an automatic reset of US/Israel relations -- bringing us back to 2020 -- and that's just not going to happen.

This form of extreme Judeopessimism is not actually an argument, but a way of psychologically escaping the need to argue. If you conclude everyone is going to hate the Jews equally no matter what you do, then you don't have to do the hard work of seeing which critiques are valid and which are not.

The ADL’s strategy here seems to be, “No one else cares about Jews, so we don’t have to care about them.” Even if you agree that other groups do not care about Jews, the sheer numbers make this an unwise bet.

The Nexus Project is deeply concerned by the divisive, hyperbolic and aggressive response that we are seeing from some corners of the Jewish community to the election of Zohran Mamdani as the next mayor of New York City. Our full statement: nexusproject.us/press-releas...
Screenshot of a statement: Nexus Project Statement on Jewish Communal Response to NYC Mayor-Elect Mamdani. Jonathan Jacoby, President and National Director of the Nexus Project and Alan Solow, Chairman of the Board of the Nexus Project and former Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations (2009-2011), released the following statement: “The Nexus Project is deeply concerned by the divisive, hyperbolic and aggressive response that we are seeing from some corners of the Jewish community to the election of Zohran Mamdani as the next mayor of New York City. This unhelpful response does not reflect the true interests, values and concerns of American Jews, including Jewish New Yorkers, or of our community as a whole. It risks alienating important allies and partners in the struggle to uphold democracy and combat antisemitism – and that it is recklessly and unnecessarily stoking a sense of antagonism between Jewish Americans and the mayor of the city with the largest Jewish population in the world.

We do not join Jonathan Greenblatt in thanking the Heritage Foundation's President Kevin Roberts for trying to have it both ways. You can’t condemn antisemitism and not condemn those ushering it into the mainstream.
Screenshot of Jonathan Greenblatt's tweet says "This is far from the first time. Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes both have been spewing hatred explicitly or subtly spreading it for years. None of it is acceptable. However, credit to @KevinRobertsTX for stepping forward today and issuing a clear, cogent takedown of the toxic antisemitism and venomous racism expressed by Fuentes. It was clarifying and crucial to hear firsthand that @heritage has zero tolerance for this kind of poison." It's a quote tweet of the A D L's tweet, which says "For years, we have catalogued Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes’ antisemitic rhetoric and admonished those who would seek to legitimize them. And we deeply appreciate those who have rejected Heritage’s shocking and indefensible defense of this hate – especially conservatives who..." and then it cuts off.

We are going to end up with two political coalitions in which one thinks "fighting antisemitism" means shutting down universities and deporting students, which polls show most actual Jews oppose, and the other thinks all antisemitism is a right-wing wedge issue. And Republicans want it that way.

The reason for the anger at posting Kirk’s words is simply that we are entering a fascistic world where the truth is dangerous and lies become facts. It is literally how fascism sustains itself. Turning bigots into martyrs and innocent people into criminals. And that’s why saying the truth matters.

Jonathan Greenblatt dismissed polls showing Mamdani winning a plurality of the NYC Jewish vote. He said the polls must be lying, because Mamdani hasn't spoken to him. This really is the ADL's goal at this point - to be the sole representative of Jews to the government. Court Jews all over again.
"Since trouncing Cuomo in the Democratic primary by 12 points, Mamdani has reiterated his commitment to the safety of Jewish New Yorkers and his willingness to meet with Jewish leaders. A recent survey showed Mamdani leading in the general election with the largest share of Jewish voters, 37%.

Greenblatt said he doesn’t believe polls showing Mamdani with significant support among Jewish voters. “I know something about this candidate,” he said. “He hasn’t been to any of the mainstream Jewish institutions. I mean, I haven’t heard from him. I don’t think the heads of most of the major Jewish groups have.”"
