I hope this isn't behind a paywall, I can't tell. This guy made what amount to bribes to various members of the Trump family and got not too much in return. They kept taking until there was nothing left. He is a shitty person but the interview is astounding.

The rest of the storm damage is getting fixed today. New roof and gutters. We had 2 roof layers, one the original shingle from 1959, the other one we put on soon after we moved here in the early 1980s. They had quite a job to scrape them off. The work was louder than the tree limbs that fell on us.

The "posh penelope" pattern creates a large amount of scrap that either is or can be easily made into right triangles. I have been sewing these together into squares as I go along. Today I laid them out randomly to see if they were too crazy to put into another quilt. I kind of like it...
Half square triangles made from the scrap pieces from the posh penelope quilt. The colors are pretty crazy but I like it.

I usually work on several quilt projects at a time, rotating every few weeks to keep from getting too sick of any one thing. I decided to make a few blocks for my "posh penelope" quilt. Once these are done I will have 54 out of 81 I need for the quilt. Only 27 to go. Gaaah! Here are a few blocks:
6 "posh penelope" blocks laying on the work table, with 4 more in-process blocks laid out near the machine waiting to be sewn. A pile of scraps is to the right, and a box full of the triangle scraps from the blocks is on the other table.

I called an old friend last night and we talked for almost 2 hours. She moved away to be near her grandkids while they were growing up and plans to come back when they go to college. She was happy surprised that I called. It made it a good night for both of us! 😍

@lynnmaccanada.bsky.social Here's the Nana's Scrap Box quilt. In the top left block, second row of patches, to the left of the blue patch, there's a triangle of the dugadoo fabric. It's not too exciting. 🤣

Now I am in Nana nostalgia land. Here's a picture of her with me and my brother in our Bethlehem PA kitchen. The curtains had an image of an old fashioned baby carriage that I apparently decided was called a dugadoo. I included patches from the dugadoo curtains in my "Nana's Scrap Box" quilt.

Almost Fall and the last roses of summer are here. It makes me think of my Nana who loved roses and had a beautiful garden. She is the one who taught me to quilt.

On a whim I entered a quilt in the PA National Quilt Extravaganza (aka the Mancuso show). I GOT IN! The show opened today and @vagabondwynn.bsky.social and I went to see it. Very odd seeing my sofa quilt hanging on the show wall. 🍾🥂 We also saw @squishythings.com beautiful wall quilt in the show.

I'm still plugging away on quilting the B&W quilt blocks. Finished the center atoms and swirls and just finished the interlocked squares. Next up is the gray border. If I do the bubbles in the white sections now, it puckers the border too much so I will save them until I get the border done.
Black and gray interlocked squares are now quilted. The center is an atom orbit shape, surrounded by spiral arms, enclosed with interlocking squares which have fine straight lines quilted on them.Close up showing the gray border which is the next step in the quilting.

Finally got the EPP quilt top completely put together, woo hoo! I made an extra ring of blue honeycomb pieces so the blocks wouldn't get cut off when I put the border on. Now it has to wait in line to get quilted. Ignore the pillow shams, they go with the quilt underneath. 😄

Started the quilting on the B&W slip knot quilt. I have all the white outlines done, and now that the quilt is anchored by that quilting, finished a first block in the corner to test drive the pattern.

I got a new laptop to replace my 2019 model. It will be wonderful to have a keyboard that works correctly. Setting up a new computer is no fun though. Even with all the helpful utilities for setting things up and transferring files, what a time suck! But I think I'm almost there.

Out with the old, in with the new. Our 41 year old AC that got speared by a falling tree limb in our nasty storms was replaced today, so we can be cool!
The tech is salvaging the refrigerant from the old air conditioning unit. The old AC components are sitting in the driveway, waiting for removal. I gave it a hug and thanked it for 41 years before it left.New AC unit. Normally they pull out the old cement pad and use the synthetic one, but the cement pad was so thick and so anchored that they could not budge it, so they laid in the new system on top of the old pad

It's AC week! Insurance came through this past weekend and approved a new AC and a new roof. We went ahead and ordered the AC earlier because realistically we weren't going to live without it no matter who paid. Next I will have people climbing all over the place for roof estimates.

Hello Bluesky, what's up? I don't have any new daylily pics. Between trees falling down, 6" of rain, & 100 deg temps, the garden has about given up. I know I have, I'm going to call it a season and do cleanup, fertilize, and move a number of plants for next year. At least the deck planters made it.

Union Pacific's famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, went through Hershey today to celebrate America's 250th. Eight of these massive engines have been preserved. 7 are in static displays, this is the only one operating for special excursions. It was LOUD.

Still no power here. There are so many trees and wires down that there are still a dozen main roads closed. They called in about 2000 workers from other states and Canada and there are utility trucks everywhere. My son in law came and took drone pics, then chainsawed the mess around the house.

I took a lot of pictures of daylilies the last two days. Good thing. We had a horrific storm tonight that drove us to the basement. I have never seen wind that bad in the 42 years I have lived here. Half of our neighbor's tree came down, the top hit our house and crushed my entire side daylily bed.

Years ago when I was redoing a bed, I found a daylily I didn't remember. I moved it several times trying to get it to bloom more than a few distorted flowers. I named it the red mutant. It finally bloomed & the flowers are small but poly with extra petals! I think it must have come up from seed.

I met a lively, fit, fun woman through friends in the running club and we got to be casual friends. Her grandkids called her "Bubble" - a perfect match to her personality! I liked her art and bought 2 of her paintings. Sadly, 2 weeks ago, she collapsed and died with no warning. Seize the day!

Today was the Lancaster Art walk. We stopped in to see the Rocky Springs Carousel animals from the early 1900's on display in their temporary home. In 1981 they were moved from their original spot to Michigan, then to Dollywood, then a $1.2 million fundraising effort brought them back to Lancaster.
