I read Greg Egan's "Distress" a decade before I identified as nonbinary, but I identified so much with the nonbinary characters, and enjoyed the society that just accepts and recognizes all these different genders so much. The "ve/ver" pronouns immediately felt like they could be applied to me […]

I feel like I sort of am in this picture. It was the 90's for me, and I didn't cling to the archetype, not really, but it gave me a model: this is how I am allowed to be. (People had decided I was a girl, but I fit the stereotype so perfectly that everyone mostly seemed to forget this.)

Running past the chapel in the forest, slipping in. I've prayed here, many times. For my baby, and the one of a friend, born prematurely, with complications, in 2018. For people I've never met, and their losses and grief, in 2023 and later. Today, I don't really pray, just think a good […]

I like helping people, and I take it as a compliment that people with communication difficulties ask me for help on the train or at the station, but... well... ... I am really tired after a long workday with lots of social interaction! I love to help, but it's exhausting! #ActuallyAutistic

Five-year-old K2 had bad luck playing Uno. It was clear they had no frustration tolerance left: they rage-quit and yelled, then grumpily sorted through the cards. Then they played a game called "Bruno" with partner: like Uno but K2 had all the special cards. With every card they played their […]

A random thought: I work for others every day: I do care work, and I work with students, and I try to be kind and helpful. The reverse, someone doing something for me, is pretty rare. And I think that's mostly because not even I know for sure what kindnesses I'd appreciate and accept. Maybe […]

Was watching Buffy’s Anya backstory episode. Friend asked why I sighed. “She’s not of a sufficiently high social class to have domesticated rabbits that far north in Europe in that century, but the writers couldn’t know, the paper was only presented at a conference yesterday.” Accuracy is fleeting.

Freedom of choice
4 frame comic. an off frame street journalist asks a bearded man wearing a green cap and khaki clothes:

sir! do you think people
who don't have the guts to
watch a public execution
should do something else
instead of complaining, while
real men enjoy the show?

the man replies:
I don't know. do
you think people who don't
want to watch drag storytime
should just do something else
instead of demonstrating?
do you think people who
don't want to transition
should get a hobby instead
of restricting trans care
for people who need it?
how come you people
only care about freedom of
choice when it's about
being cruel to people?
