There is a grim irony in the fact that he's making California that much more of a nightmare to live in for an election he is almost definitely going to lose.

I do think it's kind of hilarious he's doing this to boost his odds for the presidential election when he'll most likely not even be able to get through the whole primary.

People are discussing how Halloween candy is so terrible these days. A reminder that alot of the candy we eat is made with women’s prison labor. Russell Stover’s factory in Kansas busses in 150 women a day via a convict leasing program to staff their candy factory.
Russell Stover has begun using prison labor to make candy in
Kansas
A Russell Stover candy factory in Kansas has begun hiring incarcerated workers through a work release program, Eoin Higgins reports in his newsletter, The Flashpoint. About 150 women are bussed in from the Topeka Correctional Facility and paid $14 an hour, but the prison keeps some of their wages for room and board, taxes, transportation, and other expenses. When all is said and done, they take home less than $6 per hour. These deductions are high, but elsewhere in the country, they're even higher: In our May series on prison

"Do people even want a remake? Is the source material still very poignant to the world we live in today? Again, *what are we doing by remaking this thing people love*?" The answer should decide whether or not people go forward with a remake or adaptation at all.
000
Ben (they/its) @queerfagdyke.bsky.social · 12h
And if your response to that is, "Well, I don't want the adaptation to change anything," then congratulations, you have now stumbled onto the more important question of "What are we actually, meaningfully bringing to the table by adapting or remaking this thing?"

Ben (they/its) @queerfagdyke.bsky.social · 12h
"What's the point of adapting or remaking something if it's just going to be the same exact shit you read/watched/listened to before" is the actual question to ask.

I saw a comment saying "What's the point of adapting something if you're just going to change it" and? That's the entire point of adapting it???

A meme featuring a cartoonized depiction of a U.S. soldier, bloodied and burning, taking a barrage of knives, missiles, grenades, and bullets, all to defend a child sleeping in a bed next to them. There are captions for both the soldier and the child, as they are both representations of far more important and critical issues. The soldier is a stand-in for the brave probskay, who is willingly and proudly letting aliens shove a variety of things up their ass for the sake of this country. The child, in turn, actually represents the standard U.S. soldier, who is too innocent and weak to handle such a task themselves. Probskay gladly takes that burden on, and we salute them for it.

Today is a rare day where Twitter has more useful information than this website on a very important issue, so let's collate some of the ongoing discussions. 🧵 Here are the words straight from the mouth of a student organizer who went from interning for Mamdani to protesting him on the streets:
Wow. A student organizer leading protests against Zohran Mamdani tonight reveals that she previously interned for him.

Now she’s leading chants against the very politician she once worked for, accusing him of prioritizing his own political advancement over the people and movements that helped bring him to power.

She delivers an ultimatum: The protests can stop when Mamdani stops the sale of stolen Palestinian land in NYC and abolishes the CUNY Board of Trustees, which advances Israel’s interests within the nation’s largest urban public university system.

But she makes clear that she doesn’t expect him to deliver. In her view, Mamdani has become just another politician who makes promises to movements and then fails to meet their demands once in office.

What makes her testimony particularly significant is that she isn’t someone who opposed Mamdani from the beginning. She worked for him. She believed enough in his political project to participate in it. Now she’s publicly confronting him.

Her speech speaks to a broader frustration among people who placed their hopes in electoral politics as a vehicle for advancing Palestinian liberation. For some, the experience hasn’t strengthened their faith in political institutions. It has deepened their distrust.

Black and White had their fair share of story issues (it basically does the "bad guys have a compelling moral argument but then they kill a baby" thing), but they still had plenty of highs, including the final fight w/ Ghetsis. Black 2 and White 2...pretty much only have the final fight w/ Ghetsis.

Like okay, Ghetsis being so angry that he's not even trying to hide his plans anymore is interesting character development for HIM, but it doesn't actually make the game/story itself compelling.

One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.
