The heavy-handed censorship practiced by beige.party and kolektiva.social, I'm leaving both accounts. If anyone can recommend an instance that ISN'T run by authoritarians, please let me know—but at this point I've been burned twice. I'll continue to post any future book recommendations over on […]

I'm leaving Mastodon. Two censoring instances in a row is two too many. If I find an instance that DOESN'T censor, I may come back. Feel free to recommend one if you know one! For now I'll be posting on my old DreamWidth account. It's pretty empty, but at least there's freedom of speech there […]

Decades ago, when I was a teenager, I was in Pennsylvania with my family. There was something going on; I don't think it was a festival, it seemed more like a full-time tourist destination. Kind of like a permanent Oktoberfest, know what I mean? They had beer, chicken, pretzels, and hot dogs […]

It's easy enough to walk past Devon hedge banks covered in moss and forget that they were made by people, until the moss parts and you see the stone-facing peeping out like exposed bones.
Mature beech tree with a thick, moss-covered trunk and a long, mossy limb reaching out to the right, rooted in a moss-covered bank faced with stone with scattered ferns and fallen copper leaves. Misty fields, a wire fence and a wooden gate rail fade into the pale fog behind.

Goat morning to you
An absurdly beautiful sunrise, with silhouetted trees along the horizon, and bright pink and orange clouds stretching across the blue skyThe same view, slightly later in the morning just as the sun is about to peek above the horizon, with a whole bunch of goats back to eating the corn stalks in a frost-killed garden bed, the same place they were eating a couple of days ago.
