I remember arriving at Heathrow airport and, without any planning or reservations, could walk out of the airport, get on a train, ride halfway across the country, and be home by dinner. Cheap and easy. That's not really doable in the US. I like driving, but I also like NOT driving. I miss it.

If more Americans could easily cross the ocean, to see how well public transportation works in various ways across Europe, they be far more likely to see the value of it and want to invest in it here. Not enough have managed this so they don't understand the benefits. Which is frustrating and sad.

I understand, but the states in the US have a uniformity that comes from being part of a collective federal whole. Traveling state to state is not much of a cultural difference (maybe traveling from a coastal urban center to inland farm town). To experience new ways usually requires a airplane trip.

I was thinking of how easy it is to travel from one country to the next in Europe, giving residents a live view into how other nations solve problems. It's harder and more expensive for Americans to go anywhere other than another state, Canada, or Mexico. Seeing is believing, and very educational.

True. But Europe is more densely populated with the population centered around historic clusters, whereas the US is more sprawled and scattered. Public transportation is more of a challenge in the US, but it can be overcome if we can get more people interested, and therefore the needed investment.

My Dad, WWII era and after, described how he was able to make his way home by rail, CA to ILL, even as a broke Navy kid. We can do this, if we make it a priority. The hard part is convincing people to want this.

It's not just that the USA is big and spread out, forcing the need for cars in many places, it's also separated from places with functional public transport so many never experience how convenient and nice it is to have. Sure, we may still need cars, but not having to drive is an awesome option.

It was nice earlier and I opened the house for fresh air, but the weather turned chilly. When I closed the windows, I looked out in the from yard to witness a couple of white tail bucks fighting. I also got to see the doe get bored and run off, leaving the two boys very confused.😄

Part of the trouble is a lot of people in the US are spread out and can't reach public transport so they don't understand it. Many towns and cities could really benefit from it though with bike trails going between towns. More bikes = less cars, so more room for those who have to drive. duh.

I loved it and have watched in multiple times now. I avoided it at first because the trailer seemed a bit corny, and some of it is, but it's supposed to be and it's also surprisingly deep and surreal.
