I saw this post on Reddit a while back in response to someone saying “why bother moving, it’s just as bad everywhere else” and it’s really stuck with me

Remember the Holocaust? Bad, right? A lot of people fled Germany, and many of them tried to move to the United States, despite the fact that we were also already quite a fascist nation. Even the Nazis applauded our racists.
But why? Why would they move to the US if there were also fascists here?
.....because the people of the United States were not attempting to systematically eliminate them at the time, while the people of Germany were in fact trying to systematically eliminate them.
So for the same reasons, when it becomes apparent that the United States will not permit the existence of LGBTQIA+ people within its borders, they will undoubtedly also flee to countries that are not currently in the process of eliminating the existence of LGBTQIA+ peoples.
Does that mean the countries they flee to will not also have groups of fascists within them and that fascism will not be a problem wherever they end up moving? Of course not. IT SIMPLY MEANS THEIR LIVES WILL NO LONGER BE IN AS MUCH DANGER AS THEY WERE BEFORE.
I'm sorry, it's just such pithy and honestly offensive commentary to say "pfft, it's the same everywhere." No, it's not. They're trying to pass laws in the US forbidding the use of drugs necessary to transition, essentially ensuring a trans genocide.....IT'S NOT THE SAME EVERYWHERE ELSE. The United States is fairly UNIQUE in their level of bigoted laws and bills currently being discussed.
If you're trans and your existence is permitted in another country, but it's not permitted here, what are you going to do?
Move to that country, of course. Even if there are also fascists there.

Original art piece idea by @mIdrux on Twitter, but I and others were disappointed they drew it with mean-spirited intentions.. even calling the kidfur character a "diddyblud" (yes. verbatim) and getting wrapped up in "proship discourse." I thought the message was too human to let it be diluted + overshadowed by typical online whataboutisms and wanted to redo + reclaim it with more touches of the furry fandom, esp being a furry myself. It's love. For some, the love of your life is in the corner of a boring furcon panel room -- even if they don't have the same "interests," it's care that bridges the gap.
