You'd think if you were flying 13000 miles you might check when your daughter is actually free and plan you holiday around that, but what do I know?

Obviously, this has been a bit of circumstance, etc., but there was some surprise, I think, that I was genuinely upset that they weren't planning on spending any full weekend days with us at all.

This may be related to my being a little disappointed that my parents are only seeing us for 2.5 weekdays and a Saturday morning when they come to AoNZ. I'll be working when they come back up to Auckland.

Somebody should write a pamphlet called something like "So your adult child is doing a PhD" with useful information like "graduate students are actually very busy people" and "holiday during semester is not a thing" and "we wish we were just sitting around all day thinking"

I am not very fit, but I do walk/swim/run when I get the time. I try really hard not to be sedentary. But it feels like it’s never enough and I should always be finding even more time to exercise.

I obviously know Apple Watches don’t accurately measure VO2 max, but it’s endlessly frustrating that not only does it tell me I have the pulmonary health of a COPD patient (I clearly do not), but also unless I run at least twice a week, it keeps dropping.

Hmm, picking up this pedal is going to be more of a mission than I expected. Presumed it was a 40ish minute drive but it’s actually an hour away. This is where it’s annoying that cafes all close early on the whole.

Actually, this may have been his 75th birthday, because I am sure it was not long after he’d been in prison. Which means I was not as young as I remember being (maybe 12ish)

Ahh, Jeffrey Archer. For my grandad’s 70th birthday, when I was really quite small, we punted to Grantchester, and one of the main things I remember from that day was seeing Jeffrey Archer in a deckchair in his garden. That, and my uncle falling in the Cam.

lol my mum asked if she could call at 10pm their time/10am our time this week. Pointed out that’s 11am for us in the sense of “that works better”, not thinking that of course that means she will now call at 9pm their time. I mean fine, they go to bed early.

Having a pretty poor time with photography at the moment. I’m out of practice with birds, and it turns out I really can’t develop my own 35mm film without incident. BUT did get these pictures of Bar Tailed Godwits today (best name for a bird)
