Of course they won’t. They’ll say those are transit corridors

Which would you rather live next to: a) A cafe with a patio that opens after 7am and closes before 10pm quiet hours begin b) a small-to-medium arterial, with typical traffic including illegally modified exhausts and some light drag racing in the wee hours I know which I would prefer.

Arbitrary lines, silly rules, caving to whiners who moved in after this was open Planning departments are just a complain line for homeowners

The back deck existed before that stupid rule did. Just like the cafe is a grandfathered use zoning killed, this back deck should be grandfathered in as well

I’m not trying to butt in but that is clearly pointing out that they get paid very well.

Volunteer Park Cafe is great and these neighbors completely suck complaining about this But hey, I want city staff to lean into this noise thing. What is the decibels per ft that they want to achieve? Then apply it to their upzones

The City of Seattle is shutting down a cafe’s outdoor deck because the code says any outdoor dining must be 50’ away from a residential property due to noise concerns Funny, we shove all housing growth on the loudest roads our city has. I guess that noise is fine?

Right. Had they talked to any architect or developer that does CWs they’d get less of a concern

I didn’t want to link it to drag the author who I like or to tag on the rest of the standard maintenance costs worthy to point out. I just heard this on Soundside and was annoyed the exterior cladding gets the scare talk

Columbia Tower is 41 years old and I bet less than 10% of their windows have been replaced
040
Push The Needle @pushtheneedle.bsky.social · 11h
Yeah I get those really old ones. But none of the buildings in the 90s and 00s are going to have that kind of reglazing work
140
Push The Needle @pushtheneedle.bsky.social · 11h
I couldn’t believe someone said these would all fail in 30-40 years. Just a baffling comment

Push The Needle @pushtheneedle.bsky.social · 11h
The buildings exterior will last 100 years and most of the glass panels won’t be replaced for another 50 years.

I wasn’t calling it a park and ride. I was pointing out that the station sits in a parking garage. In downtown Seattle

Push The Needle @pushtheneedle.bsky.social · 12h
If the city were crazy enough to enlist a $300,000,000 program in 2035-2045 to replace every window they have either been fooled by someone or they’re trying to create jobs with city funds
3192
Push The Needle @pushtheneedle.bsky.social · 12h
This is simply not true. The Seattle Library is 22 years old and will not need to replace all 10,000 windows in the next 20 years. The downtown office towers from the 1960s-1980s have not had full glass replacements and modern glass curtain wall systems are designed to last even longer

A privately financed stadium still brings in sales tax, property taxes, and hires the workers that cities always justify for why it’s good to subsidize them You get all those things whether the city pays 50% or 0%

Push The Needle @pushtheneedle.bsky.social · 15h
Stadiums are a complete waste of money for cities to invest in unless it comes with ownership stake in decision making. If a team wants to leave they should either buy out the city’s share of the stadium or give them equity share in deciding whether they move or not

Our built infrastructure robs kids of their freedom of independent mobility. Streets are dominated by oversized vehicles, piloted by aggressive and distracted drivers where one mistake can turn lethal. We sacrificed child development to subsidize the auto industry.

Are you telling me I’m going to be looking down in inevitable dread after we blow an 11-0 lead to see some political upset walkoff homerun? I’ll wait for the crack of the bat. Then we can play that awesome song

This is a thread of buildings in neighborhoods that I suspect were once commercial spaces and are illegal to build today. Here's one I ride by often on 73rd and 3rd in Phinney.
