Pay attention, #writers. Here's what's happening: AI scans your site. It picks up details from your bio and from your books page. Then it sends you an email that ALMOST sounds like a human wrote it. They did not. This is a scam. Please be safe.

A spam email regarding my book, THE ALMOST-WEDDING OF JOHN BARRON GREY. Here is the text in full: "Dear Ruthanne Reid,
My name is Peter, and I'm the Author Relations & Community Partnerships Lead at Cascadia Book Club. I recently discovered *The Almost-Wedding of John Barron Grey*, and I was immediately intrigued by its wonderfully unexpected blend of hard-boiled detective fiction, nanotechnology, emerging magic, and a world divided among seven Peoples. Simon Night feels like a classic detective dropped into a reality where the rules have suddenly become much stranger.
I'd love to invite you to a 45-minute live conversation with our readers about Simon Night, the world you've created, and your approach to combining mystery with speculative fiction. From a mirror that reveals terrible truths to threats against the stability of the seven Peoples and an unforgettable fish-god, the story offers an unusual range of ideas and imaginative possibilities to explore.
I was also fascinated by your broader work teaching world-building, plot, and character development, as well as your daily efforts to help other creatives overcome creative blocks. Your experience both constructing imaginative worlds and teaching the craft behind them could make for a particularly engaging conversation about how writers turn seemingly impossible ideas into stories that work.
Cascadia Book Club is a community of 12,500+ active readers, and our author conversations are designed to connect distinctive books with engaged readers while helping authors build awareness and discoverability.
Our media team also supports each conversation with event graphics, teaser content, featured book content, and promotion throughout our community.
Would you be open to hearing more about the conversation and how our author features work? I'd be happy to send over the details and available dates.
Warm regards,
Peter

A chibi Deadpool happily glomps a grumpy looking Wolverine. Deadpool has his arms around Wolverine, while the latter has the claws of his right hand going through Deadpool’s head. Deadpool is heart emoting, Wolverine is popping a proverbial vein.
