Primitivo from Puglia: A Red Wine for Cooler Days
We’ve spent quite a lot of time in Italy recently — at least in terms of the wines we’re tasting. We’ve mostly been sipping northern Italy — a couple of versions of Schiavo (aka Vernatsch) from Alto Adige, and then a delightfully aromatic Turbiana from Lugana. All were perfect for warmer weather and lighter meals. With the change of seasons, it feel like the right time to head for southern Italy and a glass of bold red wine; Puglia is the perfect place to find one.

Hans Rottensteiner Schiava—Chill it or Not
Trentino-Alto Adige is Italy’s most northern wine region, situated along Italy’s border with Austria, and Alto Adige is the northernmost part of Trentino-Alto Adige. Today we are tasting Schiava, a red grape variety, made in Alto Adige. We received this wine as a tasting sample. Alto Adige, which used to be part of Austria, is also known as Südtirol and German is the predominant language.

An Introduction to Lugana with a Glass of Turbiana
Lugana DOC is a small wine region situated along the southern shore of Lake Garda, in Northern Italy. And while the region lies between the provinces of Brescia and Verona, and sits astride two wine regions, Lombardy and Veneto, it is firmly committed to just one grape variety: Turbiana. If you are a curious wine drinker looking for a taste of something different, or just something delicious, Lugana has a wine for you.

New followers: Thank you. I post a lot of wildlife photos that I've taken here and there, and always with ALT info. Here's a Pyrenees Asp (Vipera aspis zinnikeri), observed out in the open on a cool and foggy morning in NE Spain last year. More deets in the ALT. #herps #snakes #NaturePhotography 🌿
A top-down image of a coiled snake resting on open ground. The snake's ground color is a grayish-brown, with darker brown markings running from the neck to the tail. These markings consist of short transverse bars that are connected by a stripe of the same color. The result is a zipper-like effect. The snake is a viper, and as such has a solid, stocky body, together with a triangular spear-shaped head. It is perhaps 20 inches (51cm) in length. The snake was encountered crawling in the open on a hillside trail, and immediately drew itself into a defensive coil. Thanks to its small size and my protective footwear, the shot was achieved by leaning over the snake with a 12-60mm lens.

FitVine Free: Non-Alcoholic Wine Alternative
Every tasting sample we receive is an opportunity to learn about grape varieties, wine regions and winemaking techniques. In the case of FitVine Free we had the opportunity to taste and learn about “functional, non-alcoholic wine…infused with electrolytes, fresh fruit, and adaptogens…” I was just curious enough about the functional, non-alcoholic wine and adaptogens aspects to give them a taste, and I’m glad I did.

@robcrank68.bsky.social has chosen #LongLegs as today's #BirdOfTheDay theme. Here's a male Masai Ostrich and a Secretarybird from Amboseli National Park, Kenya for the theme. #birds #birdphotography #wildlife #nature #photography #EastCoastKin #ECK #Nikon #KenyaBirding
The Masai ostrich (Struthio camelus massaicus), also known as the East African ostrich is a red-necked subspecies variety of the common ostrich and is endemic to East Africa.The secretarybird or secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius) is a large bird of prey that is endemic to Africa. It is mostly terrestrial, spending most of its time on the ground, and is usually found in the open grasslands and savanna of the sub-Saharan region. John Frederick Miller described the species in 1779. A member of the order Accipitriformes, which also includes many other diurnal birds of prey such as eagles, hawks, kites, vultures, and harriers, it is placed in its own family, the Sagittariidae.
