A stunning male Bluethroat photographed at Sumburgh, glowing cobalt blue throat, chestnut flanks, and full of character in the spring light and fog. A brilliant migrant to encounter in Shetland. #migrantbirds #bluethroat #shetland #birdingshetland

The smallest tropical drift seed yesterday on a south mainland Shetland beach! One I’ve dreamt of finding for a while, another 1st for Shetland! An Ipomoea sp, maybe moonflower, which grow on the shores of the Caribbean and Central America. #beachcomber #seabean #driftseed #Shetland #tropicalseeds

Aurora corona, the rarest shape occurring during strong aurora activity and often accompanied by heightened visible colour. This one was directly over our heads as we approached Reykjavik in January 2025 and was literally shocking pink to the naked eye. #iceland #aurora #auroraborealis #auroracorona

Photographing the aurora at Eshaness - Shetland last week. Curtains of very bright green, although brief, were pretty spectacular. I’m completely addicted to photographing this magical northern spectacle …. #Shetland #mirriedancers #aurora #eshaness #nightskies #omsystem

The American Bufflehead on a tiny loch on Foula in late January. A beautiful still winters day to island twitch & then a challenge to photograph a very flighty bird which had become very mobile with teal, wigeon & mallard. #Shetland #rarebirds #bufflehead #foula #britishtick #rarebird #duckmagic
